    For you who use Sandboxie exclusively and if Sandboxie is indeed EOL, what will you use?

    It's been "hit & miss" since it went down.

    Since no one knows when and if that would happen it might be best to worry about that when and if the time comes. It might work perfectly fine for years past any future EOL unless you need to reinstall it and the activation servers have been shut down forever? That is always a risk for any long term use of something with product activation.

    Can't answer that question as it's based totally on unproven conjecture.

    ReHIPS, way better. I use Sandboxie only because of my lifetime license and it is still a good product.

    +1. rehips is a must for every security enthusiast/geek who takes his security serious. its main advantage is that it uses windows' native access control mechanisms instead of non-native kernel-level hooks. it's definitely on par with appguard when it comes to (almost) bulletproof security. :thumb:

    I have 'never check for updates' selected on two seperate installs installed on different dates. One machine has always blocked sbiectrl.exe from connecting out, the other doesn't block outgoing connections. On the day sandboxie.com went down I had update popups on both machines which I've never had before. I'm not saying the guy is correct about the DoS but there's definitely something weird going on with the update check.

    Hi Rio, definitively, I agree, something is not right with the servers, update system, etc. Thats a given fact, everyone knows that. In my case, both of my computers are set to Never. One has the "SbieCtrl_NextUpdateCheck=1555555555" setting and the other one, has "SbieCtrl_NextUpdateCheck=1556329954". Supposedly, we should have the one with 1555555555 when we select Never. Why my W10 has the other number, I don't know. In neither computer, I am getting the check for updates popup.

    Version 5.30
    Released on 23 April 2019.
    • Addressed a bug that affected activations and licensing creation.
    • Added partial support for WIndows 10 Insider -Fast ring version 18362 (still working on full support, we are aware downloads will not work from sandboxed browsers)

    You may have requested sandboxie not inform you when an update check is performed. Look in your windows\sandboxie.ini for:
    UpdateCheckNotify=n

    If you see the above then your machine is likely checking for updates in the background without you noticing. Try looking with TCPView for the connections.
    For me when I have sandboxie not inform me (UpdateCheckNotify=n) and then click 'never check for updates' I see a constant stream of connection attempts from sbieCtrl.exe to 50.28.48.94. These don't seem to have a limit, sbieCtrl retries again and again.
    Increasing the SbieCtrl_NextUpdateCheck value to a future date prevents this.

    At the moment I'm leaning towards the person on reddit being correct. An overlooked value in Sandboxie that caused a huge number of sandboxie installs to attempt update at the same time.

    Yep, and because of that it doesn't need to be updated regularly like Sandboxie to keep up with every software/OS changes...
    Also, the main difference with sandboxie is that you have the choice to block the execution of the suspicious process instead of just sandboxing it.

    Just updated to 5.30. When clicking 'Never check for updates' I now see the following in sandboxie.ini:
    SbieCtrl_NextUpdateCheck=-1

    Removed the date altogether so this shouldn't happen again :thumb:

    You may have more than 1 user account in the sandboxie.ini file. Try searching SbieCtrl_NextUpdateCheck=-1

    Yes, I also have UpdateCheckNotify=n in my Sandbioxie.ini.

    But anyway, whats important (IMO) is that the problem is getting solved. I already downloaded Sandboxie 5.30 32 bits and updated my W7. I had my W7 with 5.28. The license was activated quickly and the process was flawless. I realize Sandboxie has a lot of haters (like The Yankees) but we who love Sandboxie should be happy. Slowly but surely, the issues are being solved.

    Rio, read the reply I ll be writing to bjm. Regards.

    Thats what I was going to tell bjm. I see same setting as you now. bjm Sandboxie.ini still shows old setting, even after doing the update.

    I am watching my Braves play the Reds in my W10, after the game I ll update Sandboxie in the W10.

    So far, I see sandboxie.com webpages opening but not the forum.
