Hi, I am looking for an application that can update Windows' built-in Win Apps. I don't know if Offline WSUS updates them. Is there such a thing? Windows Store has a vulnerability - an attacker can remove the Get button from all apps, and disable the Update button as well.
I agree. Where's a link to a report supporting this claim? Frankly, I sure would not trust a 3rd party app more than WU. I am not saying WU is perfect - its not - but I have never seen reports it presents a security problem.
Unless I am misinterpreting the issue, it only applies to manually updating of Win Store apps. By default, Win Store apps are auto updated at Win Update checking time; usually at least once a day unless the PC is left on 7/24.
you mean this? Live tiles vulnerable!? https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/ne...ofts-live-tile-service-defacement-poc-demoed/ https://www.golem.de/news/subdomain...s-control-over-windows-tiles-1904-140717.html
Well I only know that Windows Store doesn't display the Get button for some reason. And I know I have a hacker on my tail. I tried to treat it as bug. But https://appuals.com/how-to-fix-the-missing-install-button-on-windows-store/ advice didn't help. So I thought that maybe the game was too new for my Core2 Duo, but even CandyCrush is missing the button, and it is a simple game. So I conclude that my hacker is at work again. He likes to patch things I download. For example, I was trying ESET Internet Security and he patch/corrupt the downloading modules so they wouldn't compile and generate an error. As a result the scans don't work because they automatically try to fetch module updates first. It seems like that TCP injection is a doable thing.
Hi Bill_Bright, I keep a series of drive images. They have Windows and security softwares. A restore of the drive image takes only 5 mins.
This is very true and an excellent practice - as long as the image file goes back to before the problem first occurred. I ask again, have you tried a different browser?
I wondered that too, but decided to dismiss it as highly unlikely. Unless you have a massive treasure trove of personal information and credit card information on huge numbers of people, no hacker is going to waste his or her time on you - UNLESS they know you personally and have some personal vendetta against you. And then you have bigger problems to deal with. Not to mention, any hacker capable of being on your tail would certainly be able to hide their tracks. So if you could see them, they are either more dangerous than normal and you need to contact the authorities, or they are really amateurish - in which case you would have nothing to worry about.
