Got them all (except I hid that support termination message "upgrade").
Both machines hitting on all cylinders, to mix a metaphor. And no signs of trouble. :)

UPDATE: We’ve had several reports that Avast customers are experiencing the same symptoms. Avast has a mea culpa:

Windows machines (particularly those running Windows 7) are becoming locked or frozen on startup after Microsoft updates KB4493472, KB4493448, and KB4493435.

Avast has received reports of an issue affecting our customers running Avast for Business and Avast Cloud Care on Windows machines, particularly those with Windows 7 operating systems. While this problem is currently being researched, we have discovered some temporary solutions to restore functionality to our users.

There's an article by Martin Brinkmann at ghacks too:

Agreed. These products are likely doing things they should not be and were broken when changes were made that conflicted.

At least let's focus on those AVs that actually have issues. And not blame those that didn't have any problem.

I've installed the update in question on Win 7 here and have no issues at all. Then again, I have no antivirus installed either, so... :)

I have not had issues so far and don't run the mentioned products. Still, I hesitate to update the PCs and servers that are not yet updated until the situation calms down.

I usually go ahead and install the latest when it comes out because I always have a Macrium image from the previous month to fall back on if anything goes wrong. That has worked well for me for years and years now...

Windows 10 v. 1809--17763.437. No freezes, slowdowns or other issues since KB 4993509. Only took one restart to complete installation. Definitely doesn't seem universal; then again, Windows Defender on here, no third party.

Last night i installed KB4493509 on windows 10 1809. Today i booted up and had trouble getting to the desktop. When i finally got to the desktop everything kept freezing, I wasn't aware of any known problems, but after several reboots and my start up programs not loading i booted into safe mode.all seemed ok. It was just my gut instinct but i decided to uninstall Avira. Everything seems to have gone back to normal. I will use windows defender for a bit and see if there are any developments regarding Avira

Agree. No problems here, with EAM, and several other security softs actually.

Yes, more than a little suspicious. That said I am having no issues with ESET Internet Security installed.

My KB4493472 is dated April 11th. It looks like MS pulled the first one from the 9th and replaced it.

Windows 10-1803 64bit, no AV except defender. KB4348084 win update andKB4493478 security. No problems today. It was the fastest update I've ever seen. Quick downloads and no more than 4 minutes after the mandatory restart.
