It may be convenient solution for mixed environments where both Windows and macOS systems are used. Think of Gnu/Linux ClamAV scanner to block Windows malware from email attachements or pendrives.
I can see that point in a work environment but most Mac folks bought one because they didn't want to run Microsoft products. Therefore the idea of Defender or Edge on Mac OS doesn't seem like something that would be successful.

Being a student I have yet to see a Mac without Microsoft Office, so I understand they are at least offering it, who knows what might be a hit, being free and all.
Microsoft delivers Defender ATP security service to Macs July 9, 2019 https://www.computerworld.com/artic...rs-defender-atp-security-service-to-macs.html Microsoft: Microsoft Defender ATP for Mac is here!
They buy Mac because it is trendy, show off wealth and easy to use with their already expensive iPhone, people can't tell difference between Windows and MacOS. When I asked them why Mac, they reply "nice design"... Put MS Office, change its name to Apple Office, they will praise it lol.
Sadly that is likely true. We've had customers buy them because they think it is a computer that can't get a virus (their words) and then they want to run Windows software on it.
Microsoft Defender ATP Receives Network Protection Feature Update November 16, 2020 https://winbuzzer.com/2020/11/16/mi...ves-network-protection-feature-update-xcxwbn/ Roadmap
Quoting an almost 2 year old comment to call it out for being outdated... Though the peak of that mindset was during the Vista years, it's still somewhat relevant, just on a smaller scale. I still work with several people, including the boss, that buy Apple because it isn't Microsoft.
Lol. I used to be like that. I do use now Microsoft software and email. I like their dedication to security and I consider them more privacy friendly than google.
Unfortunately Microsoft Office after decades has no legitimate alternative. Especially where Outlook is concerned. The problem is after 25 years of Outlook it still sucks. It still hangs and crashes and when I empty the deleted items folder on an IMAP account it almost always puts one of them back. But yeah, everyone I know with an iPad has Microsoft Office on it. I would love to see an actual alternative to all of it but I don't think it's coming. It certainly isn't here yet.
Except outlook, there is an alternative for Windows, Mac-OS, and Linux.
