I read most of the threads and found that most of the AVs are now using BitDefender engine. Either it is the primary engine (as in Vipre) or an additional engine (as in F-Secure). Which engine is used by ESET? Does it uses multiple engine or a single engine? Does it also depend on BitDefender engine?
Everything you need to know is here. Quite interesting, also.... https://cdn1.esetstatic.com/ESET/US/docs/about/ESET-Technology-Whitepaper.pdf Their own engine, by the way.
Good to know they are using proprietary engine. There was the news that in version 12 some new engine improvements are coming. What are these?
I’am thinking about switching from KIS to Eset because it is very light , but How safe are we with Eset? I am a normal Home user not a pro ;-)
It depends a lot on whether you will use default settings or not. At default settings, KIS performs better than ESET, according to what I have seen.
I never did an extensive comparison, but if you are willing to put up with a lot of prompts, until the HIPS is trained, I think it can compete with anything on the market.
Based on what has been leaked/rumored about the upcoming 12.1 release, Eset will be adding some behavioral monitoring capability. If enabled, users will start seeing "suspicious" activity wording in the alert; something that currently is almost never displayed. Appears this new feature will have no "tweaking" capability and will not be enabled by default. Suspect the feature will interface with the HIPS since some type of rule activity would have to be created if the user decides to permanently allow the activity.
They ditched BD and replaced with avira engine = Capricorn engine https://community.f-secure.com/t5/Home-Security/f-secure-engines/m-p/114478/highlight/true#M4448
I have been using ESET from more than ten years. Before this I used to sell AV products. I installed Endpoint Security in Enterprises. In those days I found, the heuristics capabilities of ESET was excellent. Few suspicious files detected by ESET heuristics, I sent to other AV companies and these were later flagged as Malware. ESET has always been light on resources and detection capabilities are excellent. BitDefender detection engine, we all know, is excellent, however when speaking of heuristics, ESET is unmatched.
I don't really find tweaking ESET to speed it up. Most tweaks will improve the protection rather than speed things up. In most cases most users are best to leave the default settings. That said at this point the speed of either is comparable in my experience. Pick the one you like to use the best and you really can't go wrong.
