I like how they didn't even mention the people who are simply torrenting the episodes :argh:

Presumably because the EU did a similar study on torrenting and found that major companies generally benefit from the increased exposure that torrenting brings.

Also, they have some stones to call sharing an account "piracy"

I mean it's true, if the people pirating are not ones who would have bought the product anyway. But, instead, if most of the people pirating are simply being cheap, then yeah it's a loss (doesn't even have to be most, it's all math after all)

In a way, I feel the corporations are sabotaging their chances through restrictions.

I used to subscribe to Netflix, but I found that not all my shows are on there so I had to pirate those that weren't. In particular it bothered me that I had to wait 6 months to see the episodes for the shows I'm interested in, since they release the episodes in batches rather than weekly.
Then I discovered Hulu. They posted my favorite shows the day after they aired on TV, which was great. I didn't find their ads to be annoying at all, the way I saw it I found a legal way to watch my favorite shows the day after they air on TV which is all I've ever wanted.

    Then this happened:
    https://www.nytimes.com/2011/07/27/business/media/fox-to-limit-next-day-streaming-on-hulu.html
    I don't even own a ducking TV!

Now I'm back to using ThePirateBay.

Once Again, Sharing Streaming Passwords Is Not 'Piracy' Or 'Freeloading'

I guess all I can say is that I cancelled them 5 years ago and I don't miss giving money to greedy corporations such as this. I don't really miss TV at all at this point.

That explains why there are so many cheap streaming subscriptions being sold on eBay,

I don't get it, did you also cancel Netflix? But anyway, I did read that Netflix wants to become a bit more strict when it comes to password sharing, and I don't blame them. I do wonder how this would work on a technical level.

I cancelled everything. I was considering restarting my Netflix account when they announced once again they were raising the price. They want to justify it by using the money to produce original shows, which I did not ask them to do. As for password sharing, as long as they limit your service to a number of simultaneous accesses, they shouldn't complain. It could be you at someone else's house. Pretty soon they will want to put cameras on your TV and charge you times everyone in the room. I've had enough of their greed. I don't need TV. I certainly don't need commercial TV. Movies are 3 hours long now, with the extra hour being taken up by commercials. On top of cable TV fees. Somewhere in a nice house sits the CEOs of these companies pulling in 8 figure paychecks while other people struggle to afford these services. And then to call it piracy for sharing a paid account. Between family members. That probably live in the same house. They're lucky anyone pays them for anything. I'd like to see everyone cancel long enough for them to rethink their business model. Once again the entertainment industry treating their customer base like a bunch of criminals.

Yeah right? Why should I have to pay $5? Or $10? Or whatever the price is? So the CEO can buy another mansion or another lambo? Yeah, no. They've got enough money. I only support people who need it. I'm not gonna pirate an indie game from a small dev, but paying $60 for Assassin's Creed game? The problem is not the money, it's that it goes to EA, just like the netflix $5 or $10 goes to the shareholders as they are currently anything but poor, they've got enough money for more shows. Unless I wanted to play multiplayer AC, I wouldn't buy it. And that isn't about me, that's about most people. To them, that $5 or $10 is a loooot more than it is to the CEO or the shareholders etc. the former need it more, so even if they can afford it, I would still support piracy. Stop helping make the gap between the poor and the rich grow bigger

I want to make it clear that I am not suggesting that I support piracy, I just want to see the rampant greed reigned in. A few years ago my cell phone bill was $15 a month. Now it it $130 plus. That is not inflation. Vote with your dollars. I never buy games for $60. I may buy them after the fact for half or less. I don't need to play when they are trendy, new and full of bugs. If everyone waited for the $30 price or lower, they would have to start there. Or stop making them. I am good with either.

Well, for me the price isn't a problem. In fact, I would pay 20 bucks a month if services like Netflix gave me what I wanted. Instead of spending billions on producing "Netflix Originals" crap, they should offer more high quality content. Most of my favorite movies and series are simply not available on Netflix. If you look at the JustWatch site, there are about 74000 movies available, Netflix should have offered at least 10000 movies. They should stop producing crap, and stick to the basics.

It isnt that simple, everyone nows wants to compete with Netflix having its own streaming platform and that means the later has to depend a lot of more in their Originals production content.

It's a matter of taste of course. Apparently, the Netflix Originals are quite popular. But I simply want access to my favorite movies. But it isn't all bad, I do respect Netflix and it seems that content has improved in the last months. They even offer more movies that are only one or two years old. But I can name at least 400 of my favorite movies that they have never offered. These are some of my favorites that are currently available on Netflix Holland.

I somewhat agree that it is more about content than price, but right now every service I have seems to be increasing their price by 50 to 100%. My paycheck has increased by 0. So with an ever increasing subscription fee and still lacking the content I would prefer I am going to pass on their service for now.

There are many good Netflix Originals, series, cartoons and movies as well. If they are worthy your money only you can answer.

It's not going to happen where I'm at. Trying to decide if/where I want to relocate before looking too hard.

Try going somewhere where you understand the local language, which pretty much means they have to speak english as a primary language, unless you know some other ones. Unless you mean staying in the US :gack:

Likely staying in the US though willing to explore other options. Probably just a warmer state. Maybe a higher tech area with more opportunity. Maybe I should go work for Netflix. I assume they have plenty of money with the price increases. :argh:

Well, don't take it for granted. Like I said, in the USA you can simply hop from one streaming service to another. But in Holland, I can't get my hands on hundreds of movies and series, very frustrating. And that's why I blame Netflix because I was checking out services like Max Go and IMDB Freedive and they do offer certain classics. And I was shocked to see how many classic series are available on Tubi. So Netflix is really doing a crappy job.
