What surprises me is how AV-Test gave Trend Micro a 5.5 out of 6 Performance so it sounds like its light on the system but AV-Comparatives put it towards the last 3 that's a big variance in performance no matter what the testing methodology might be. who do you trust?
I trust my own experience, where I've seen it cause very noticeable slowdowns at times, on just about every computer I've seen it installed on. You should never take much notice of antivirus performance tests. The performance of security software varies so much from one computer to the next, that whats runs really well for other people, may cause slowdowns on your own computer. You really need to try any security software you want to use yourself, on your own computer, to see how well it works for you.
I can confirm the heavy load in the older version. But it's a pity..i would try to give TM a new chance if they would improve the system impact. Because they have a strong antiphishing and behavior blocker

Announcing Trend Micro Security for Microsoft Edge https://blog.trendmicro.com/announcing-trend-micro-security-for-microsoft-edge/
Basically, don't trust these ultra cloud dependent products - Trend, Norton/Symantec, Panda and McAfee. They do not offer a complete set or 24/7 online and offline protection. I have made many posts on this matter, but the end choice is yours. Sad to see that the old giants fell so far - these 4 were amongst the biggest security companies 20 years ago.
Pretty much this and those ultra cloud dependent products usually are false positive kings (machine learning/AI hype). If an antivirus solution doesnt have great signature detection and a powerful emulator it is an indication of low expertise.
Isn't that why Trend Micro offers Housecall though? It does download a full set of definitions from Trend Micro and then uses that to scan your machine. It only uses Cloud data after the scan is completed as just a 2nd check on the files it just scanned. I know Norton and McAfee have offline tools to that are like Housecall with Power Eraser and Stinger/GetSup. I think they mostly focus on stopping the threats before they actually infect your device via good web filters and behavior based detection and cloud reputation rating. I wish signature detection was better than it is now, but i Think Bitdefender and Kapersky probably have the best signature detection out of 3rd party products, but those products lack in other areas like Phishing protection not being as good as cloud centered products. I guess its just a trade on what they decide to focus on. I am not going to say one or the other is wrong. Just thinking out loud
Trend Micro Patches Password Manager Flaw August 14, 2019 https://www.infosecurity-magazine.com/news/trend-micro-patches-password/
I can get this suite for free, year-after-year, through my employer as long as I'm employed with them, but I don't bother. I prefer SRP, OSArmor, firewall and browser script control.
It does have issues with false positives. For example, in the latest False Alarm test at AV-Comparatives, there were 81 false positives with Trend and only 8 with Windows Defender. I see that it is doing very well in testing at MalwareTips, due its excellent behaviour blocker. Its signatures, seem to be pretty weak. Or maybe they are just slow at adding signatures for new threats.
