So they removed their VPN and now they add a VPN? Am I getting this right?

Yes, but the difference is that the VPN is now built into the browser and is not a standalone app.

    Checking this out,
So now one can have a firewall, adblocker and a VPN on Android without rooting their phone, looks like this might just work.

It seems to be that each of these apps uses the VPN functionality to get around the fact that the phone isn't rooted. I don't know that more than one app can do this at a time...?

Not normally, but being built into the browser itself it does not need to establish a VPN through your phone.
I'm currently testing this one out with Adguard w/Firewall enabled which establishes a VPN service through your phone and apearently Opera beta with their VPN enabled all works just fine together.
My only concern is that they do not keep logs of such.

That sounds good. I see that the Opera beta is available in the Google Playstore, so I may give it a try :thumb:

What do you think of the Opera beta so far? I installed it and it works fine. It looks like you can only enable the VPN for "private" tabs though.

    So far so good here.
You can use the VPN without using private tabs.
    Settings
    Tap on VPN
Uncheck box '' Use VPN for private tabs only''
