Spotify bans ad blockers in updated Terms of Service Cracking down on ad blockers February 7, 2019 https://www.theverge.com/2019/2/7/18215845/spotify-ad-blockers-terms-of-service
If sites knew how to display ads reasonably then it wouldn't be a big deal, but since they use them to hijack the screen or to distribute malware, the ad blocker is staying on. There is no site i cannot function without. Ad blockers are a response to bad behavior. When they stop doing it, I will stop needing one.
How will they differentiate from network-wide filtering to individual user systems? What if a firewall blocks certain ips/pages/content and the user has no control over it? What if a security software catches and filters out content as a false positive? Mrk
One day we'll long for IRC again, that day is getting closer week after week. The toxicity of monetization has poisoned the whole internet pool.
It's poisoned the whole ** world. In the USA in the name of law & order morality is legislated. Abortion, drugs, sex, marriage etc. etc. No one in the USA should homeless, hungry or lack access to medical care. It is immoral.
I don't get it, when do you need to block ads on Spotify, do they mean on their website? Or can you also block ads from their stream?
Extending this list: Some browser extensions are created mainly for security reasons (i.e. NoScript), but they may have side-effect of ad blocking. Do these extensions count as Ad Blockers? Some browser extensions are created mainly for privacy reasons (i.e. Ghostery), but they may have side-effect of ad blocking. Do these extensions count as Ad Blockers?
It doesn't seem to affect users in Germany, at least the Terms and Services for Germany hasn't been updated yet. More (german)
It seems that you can block the ads in the stream. I guess people were trying to get the equivalent of the paid service for free.
not exactly. the paid service allows hq streaming, unlike the free one which allows low quality streaming.
depends where you live... those scammers, arguing that because you live in a "less rich" country , you pay less but the library of songs you get much be more limited than what the "rich countries" have.
I continue to buy my music on CDs to not have to even deal with services like this. It takes no blame from sites that use malicious and/or annoying ads.
I also prefer to buy drm-free music and manually sync to whichever device I need. No fuss, no data needed. Mrk
I also agree with that. But music is not everything. Recently I began to be interesting in podcasts. For now I frequently used Youtube for listening to them, but streaming HD video to just listen to audio in decent quality is waste of resources.
