Is there at least an option to turn off webshield now?

 

No webshield is build in, turn off protection shield is the only one.

 

Is there a way to pass command line parameters to Bitdefender Antivirus Free in order to scan specific files or folders from a script/batch file?

Protection Shield on or off = BD AV on or off. That's it. One either likes it or finds an alternative.

So this will turn off real-time scanning? I must say I kinda like this simple style AV, how is performance? I don't think I will be using it myself, but perhaps I can recommend it to others. Personally I don't really trust AV's anymore.

 

It's a good free product but no settings other than On/Off. I used it for a month and liked it but it cut my wifi several times, and its SSL scanning sometimes blocked safe sites on Firefox (if I remember correctly). Its scans are quick and it's generally fast overall. A little heavy on RAM but no big deal. Overall, I liked it but for the above reasons. Back to WD for me!

 

Last time i used it was about 2 months ago, at that time i had a slow computer boot time and webpages loading too slow so i stopped using BD free.
Meanwhile there are bugfixes done so i don't know if its better now.....

 

More than likely, the bugfixes don't improve performance.

 

i use it (not sure why) but ive never even opened a web browser in windows so dont know anything about that. i just habitually update it when i start steam anyway. in any case its caused me no problems
