I would like to start a dedicated thread for Thunderbird backup programs and tools. I know that there have been made posts about it in the Thunderbird thread but I really would like to have a separate thread for it so folks don't have to go through that long thread. And I think the topic deserves its own thread here in this sub-forum. There are also other reasons to start this thread, some are: 1. A few months ago we started a new thread for Outlook backup programs. 2. In August 2017 AJSystems ceased operations as mentioned in this post in the AJSystems thread. AJSystems made the really great program Mozilla Thunderbird - Backup (MTB). Just like OutBack Plus (from AJSystems) for Outlook it was just a great program! So, I would like to invite all users here to post their favorite programs and tools for backing up Thunderbird and all of its settings (!). Please mention on which OS version you use it, for which Thunderbird version and whether it is Thunderbird 32- or 64-bit. Thank you!
Hi BMW, Thanks, but now what if you want to set up Thunderbird on a new machine with all of Thunderbird's settings? @Peter2150 pointed to that for Outlook in this post in the thread for Outlook backup programs. The AJSystems programs could do all of that. Maybe I should have mentioned that option in the first post.
I've used the excellent Mozbackup program to backup and restore Thunderbird for many years with 100% success on Windows 7, 8.1 and 10 PCs. Sadly Mozbackup development ceased a while ago but the final version made available was 1.5.2-beta 1 and this works perfectly on all Thunderbird versions up to and including version 60.0. -- JB
A file synchronization software is a good option. And it can be used for other files/folders that change often like Firefox profile, KeePass encrypted file and whatever else.
Ah thanks for the clarification. I have done this one time manually in the past, Thunderbird, like Firefox has profile folders with all your settings, which you can copy to a new machine. You can copy the email database as well, not sure if that is also located in the profile folder.
Heckasoft Backup & Restore is a neat little freeware program that works with a loong list of browsers as well as some torrent & em clients including Mozilla Thunderbird and Em Client http://www.hekasoft.com/hekasoft-backup-restore/
All I've ever done is backup the Thunderbird PROFILE... it contains everything needed for a full Tbird reconfiguration and/or transfer, incl. account information. Everything you need to know is HERE...
The on!y difference might be where the PROFILE folder is located... but I believe they are in the same place.
