It's a big web, and we're all in it.

If they want to take down Google's position, give people a reason to switch. The reason Chrome surpassed Firefox is because Firefox spent years with their *** "Every addon needs to be updated every new Firefox version" model, among other stupid decisions. Now automatic updates for ages, too, something Chrome had since day 1.

Statements like these are always so funny to me. If Google is doing something anti-competitive, report them or sue them. It's the only thing these massive corporations actually understand; monetary damage.

And wasn't the W3C come up with web standards that should work in any browser? Stuff like HTML, JavaScript and other web related technologies should be developed by an independent organization, then we wouldn't have a situation where only one company makes the rules.

FF went from an innovative browser to a failed copycat of Chrome, i hope it dies soon and be replaced by something else worth competing with Chrome.

They didn't really need it until they started copying Chrome's release schedule. I still think a new version every 6 weeks for the sake of it is a bit much. Patches or point release when needed, sure, but a new full version release? And no, the ESR version is not a great alternative.

--Whoops, this discussion was about Google. I agree with the thread title.

It will get worse - much much worse. Until the whole of internet is one giant IQ90 puddle of ads.
But I have had an epiphany recently. I have come to a state where I actually don't really care.

I disagree. FF is using its basic architecture (because it us a proven one) but is still way more configurable than Chromium will ever be and is offering more and more APIs not available in Chrome.
Since practically all other relevant browsers are based on Chromium and the rise of a competitive browser with an alternative architecture is simply wishful thinking, your hope would lead to an even bigger Google monopoly. This is certainly nothing any reasonable user would want.
