Other day got a new Dell XPS 8930, with 16gb optane memory, Costco sale!

After updating and putting programs on yada yada!

The notification area icon for Nvidia, said new update available. DL & try install (note machine came with 1050ti). this message
    upload_2018-12-7_16-36-37.png

Hours with Dell & they say, this 1050ti, driver is not compatible, with Dell mfg dr

Then why was the icon there notifying of an update? No answer!

After Dell quits making updates available on there site, where am i to get updates? No answer.

Any ideas to install update, is Dell correct, & why would they put something into 'notification area' known to not be compatible?

Also dell Diagnostic, said "Intel Rapid Storage" recommended update. The tech said that's for win 8, & not necessary. This does not seem correct

I would open the case and visually confirm the video card model if possible. Regarding updating you can use the Device Manager to check for an updated driver. You can also use the auto-detect feature on the Nvidia site to identify the hardware and see if there is an updated driver there.

The latest version of Intel Rapid Storage software can be downloaded here:

    https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/55005/Intel-Rapid-Storage-Technology-Intel-RST-

I installed it on my Dell 8900.

Just to point out that the screenshot says "the driver is not compatible with this version of Windows". And that because of that it can't find compatible hardware.

    Hi Tried all fail!
Spoke with NVIDIA, what they feel is the problem, is Intel uhd 630 on board, video. Tried 'disable' in D.V, no luck
Looked at BIOS I can't find anything regarding to disable

@Seer Yes! The first instruction from BIOS is, regarding Intel 630 > then windows > then nvida fail update

Dell is well known for selling nonstandard stuff, locking you to them. Many years ago, they used a custom motherboard power socket/plug. They were close-enough pin-compatible with the ATX standard, but the DC polarity was reversed. So if you used a generic power supply, it'd fry the board ;)

    Hi Hawki,
They show it does not need updating (DELL). Fine, Dell will quit supporting & updating drivers, at some point. Then how do you update?

The issue is, they put that update notice in 'system tray', regarding NVIDIA, however it does not work.

    I did find this:
    https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000006903/graphics-drivers.html

    I get to here:

#2 Exists in all hardware profiles

I cannot see that to uncheck it. Dell service tag, CBZDMR2

The Nov 2108 update sounds pretty recent.

Sounds like a sweet machine -- But if you are worried about Dell stopping driver updates, Costco has a 90 day return policy on electronics - just say'n

Hawki I thought about boxing it up, to Costco, & giving that Round Rock , Texas co. the old 3 finger salute.

Then after I'd given up for the day, NVIDIA calls me & suggests:

This driver is different, than the NVIDIA updater suggested, or I choose wrong. The above driver resulted in, SUCCESS

    Dell does tell some whoppers!

Many Thanks, Messrs Seer, Mirimir, Hawki
