Sounds to me, we have found the "ultimate" way to block Win 10 feature upgrades:
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4464619/windows-10-update-history

So app developers that have created existing Win Update blocking apps, just create some app along this line and the Windows user community will pay you everlasting homage.:-*

Yes, good idea. Or somebody can create a list of incompatible software that blocks upgrade and users can then install one that they like. :)

Or, you know, just block the execution of the involved processes, such as the installer...

Had a few issues with the three 1809 updates.
First try all failed (I knew they would by the fast rising rate of the download and install percentages)
On retry only the .Net preview and Flash Update showed but both installed successfully.
Asked updates to search, and this time the cumulative (KB4469342) did turn up and downloaded and installed.

They always fail, even when they don't. I'll elaborate.
I never had updates reported as failed by the Windows Update so far (not for years) and apparently everything looks fine, they download, install and I reboot. But as I inspect Event Logs after each update process, there is always an Event ID 20 'error' (cumulative update failure) even though nothing is reported as failed by the WU. Almost immediately after this entry in the logs, there is an 'info' entry that reports the update as successful (a second silent attempt) and a successive 'info' saying that a reboot is needed to mark the update as installed/active. On reboot, an additional 'info' is shown saying that the update is now active. These are 4 entries (1 error, 3 infos) in total and for the last couple of months it is always like this in Event Viewer.

Mine don't usually fail with an error though. This time they did.

I am used to the 2 attempts (usually with Cumulatives) that happen and they usually show (2) after the update. I was under the impression that this can sometimes happen if a service stack update has to be installed first and is included in the list of updates but the Cumulative tries to install first.
Of course, being Windows there can be lots of other reasons too :)

It might be a coincidence, in my experience if the updates are performed whilst I'm browsing with Chrome, they always fail, but it never happens if the computer is idle...

I agree about that as I've noticed that too.

Chrome has been my default browser for years, it is almost always running and I never noticed that. What I have noticed though is that Chrome's own sandbox causes a DCOM permission error (as it should, an EventID 10016) each time the browser is started. I don't know if this is related to updates, but thought I should mention it anyway.
What's interesting here is that we all have recurring, but slightly different cases.

I don't use Chrome (I use Firefox) and for me Cumulative Windows 10 updates also fail first and install successfully at the next attempt.

(Adobe Flash Player updates seem to install fine at the first attempt)

Browser is irrelevant. It is solely a WU failure.

    From the above link -

    This is not true.
2 months ago I had a cumulative update failure because Servicing Stack one was needed first. It was another silent fail, logged with an Event ID 20. But both updates were clearly offered, and a short inspection of logs and KB articles (where this dependency was clearly stated) quickly resolved that issue.
Event Viewer logs all updates when they are installed, and this time there are no servicing stack entries.

You mean the sandbox triggered error?
Everyone has it. On Chrome. There's also a slew of Event ID 10 (low number indicates a kernel operations) 'warnings' in the Microsoft-Windows-Security-Mitigations/KernelMode channel that are fired up when browsing.
Firefox does this as well, but not on startup. It's random, same Event ID.
Edge has it's own sandbox (AppContainer) and a slew of 'errors' are fired in it's own dedicated Event Viewer channel (Microsoft-Windows-Security-LessPrivilegedAppContainer/Operational).

This is all normal. As I understand it, sandboxes run with lower privileges than the broker and can't access sensitive and possibly vulnerable resources. But that's about as far as my grasp on it goes and I'm waiting for someone to correct me.
    Sorry for the OT.

No problem anon, I figured it out after you edited the post.

Nevertheless, the info I gave, although in a wrong thread, is true (and may be useful).
    No harm done :)

It’s not mine and I currently don’t have access to it.

Will probably try again this weekend.

As far as Event 20 Windows Updates errors on 1803, I have had one since my last reset install on 9/4/2018. And that was for a VB 2010 Tools update.

What I have noticed is after the 1803 reset, my Win Update problems have been next to nil.

Win10 1809 LTSC x64. After applying the latest patches, the boot up speed on my computer is significantly slower, even the boot drive is an SSD drive, and it was much faster before.

The error I get constantly is Event 1:
Prior to Win 10, stackhash errors were related to DEP violations. Don't think that is still applicable to Win 10.

There is diddly squat on this Edge stackhash error on the web. I just assumed in my case, it was Eset trying to inject one of its .dlls and access being denied for it.

This is all off-topic for this thread, so I apologize in advance. I'll be quick.

Regarding the second log entry pertaining to Chrome, EventID 10, this is what has been blocked -

    EventID10.png

The browser is denied access to a well known attack vector, win32k.sys kernel driver.
I suspect something similar is happening with Edge and it's EventID 1, though the error itself is more generic and not so descriptive.
