Since the article only talked about filters in current adblockers, I did a test: I disabled all filters and surfed in Medium Mode to Yahoo home page. The one ad I disabled with element picker and presto! Perfect page with no breaks! Thought you might like to know.

 

If I go to https://www.bbc.com/news all photos load properly. Click thru to Sport, https://www.bbc.com/sport, and no photos load. Clicking on the different sports' menus and the photos load. To get the photos to load on https://www.bbc.com/sport I have to disable Nano. How do I go about figuring out which filter is causing the problem? It's only just started happening today.

 

If you're using Medium Mode (block 3rd party scripts & frames) you may apply a noop to: bbc.co.uk. That worked for me. It took no time at all to do.

 

Not using Medium Mode, but having read about it I went hunting: set bbci.co.uk to allow. Will try Medium Mode now I know about it.

Depending on the browser you use, you may even wish to try Nano Adblocker. It is based on uBO but better overall out-of-the-box, with less site breakage in Medium Mode. Nano in Edge browser stays current with uBO on updates. Not available in FF. Cheers!

 

That's the thing, they keep popping up even if you use the element picker, so I need some kind of global rule. Perhaps I can PM you when I encounter them, the sites are not explicit or anything.

How to permanently remove it with ublock? Ad-Block Warning Removal list filter is already enabled, but still I get it.
Do I have to pick all elements consisting of the Warning or can I find a quicker way to get rid of it?

 

Can you test if you still get the warning if you use Nano Adblocker instead?

 

Is Nano AdBlocker an alternative add-on or an ublock's filter? I could not find it either (Firefox).

 

Nano Adblocker is a fork of uBlockO.

 

It's not available for Firefox (although it's a fork of uBO). Besides, issues raised on the Nano github site are usually solved very fast on https://github.com/uBlockOrigin/uAssets. Hence, I don't see any compelling reason why one should use it.

 

The reason I ask is that I'm curious if Nano would be detected on that website like uBlock was.

I cannot confirm this. I just tried Nano Adblocker (in combination with Nano Defender) and that site reports that "Adblock for Mozilla Firefox" is detetcted.

EDIT: You have to make sure that JS is enabled both in uBO and in Nano for that site! Without JS most stuff is not detected by that site.

EDIT2: If you create the following rule in Dynamic URL Filtering using the logger

your adblocker will no longer be detected. Needless to say that this is not a universal rule as it only works on that site.

 

The result is the same on both Edge and Chrome. uBlock gets detected but somehow Nano doesn't.

I don't use Firefox so I haven't test it.

 

You probably noticed by now, but it's working again. The fix was implemented yesterday in "uBlock filters," which is the first one in uBO's filter list (you may need to update).

I would like to solve a longstanding issue--caused by hidden ads--that partially breaks the scroll tracking feature (Mark items as read when you scroll past them), but I'm not good enough at this to figure it out myself. Not sure where the best place is to bring that up further.

 

I repeated the test on Chromium and can confirm what you're saying. The simple reason is that Nano contains the rule

in the Nano filters list which is a static filter equivalent to the dynamic rule in my previous post. In other words: Nano has a filter specifically for that site which means that it is not less detectable than uBO. Using this filter for such a well-known test site is actually a sham as it suggests that is somehow "better" than uBO which is obviously not the case.

AFAIK uBlock removes duplicates. Maybe it uses different order when removing them so they are removed from different lists in different browser.
