I have been using Zone Alarm for a long time. For some time now my games seem to be running choppy. Especially since moving to Win 10. So I decided to look into it a little. Started watching the cpu in the task manager and low and behold Zone Alarm seemed to be a repeating program. Disconnected my Ethernet cord and turned off Zone Alarm and WOW. No more choppy So, I guess I will have to start paying for Anti Virus and Firewall. Which is fine, I just don't want to purchase one only to find out it does the same thing. Can anyone tell me what Anti Virus and Firewall Products will run without effecting my games. I know what you are going to ask. Specs Fairly good gaming computer. i7-8700 cpu at 3.7 GHz Geforce gtx 1070 8 gig ram you get the picture Thank you JR
Have you disabled Windows Defender? If not you are running two AV programs at the same time, and this could cause your problem.
As I recall, Windows Defender became standard in Windows 10. In Windows 7, you had to install it. Or at least, that's what I vaguely remember.
I made a guide on how properly disable Windows Defender including all its tasks/processes: http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/how-to-properly-install-an-antivirus-security-suite-in-windows-10.800848/
No you won't. For example Panda, Tencent PC Manager and recent releases of 360 Total Security are extremely light and free. You could add Comodo Firewall if you want a decent firewall. The antiviruses I listed do not necessarily provide the best protection, but they won't slow down your computer.
There's a better way to disable Windows Defender, made by the one and only TairikuOkami - https://pastebin.com/kYCVzZPz After that, run: echo "\registry\machine\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows Defender" [2 8 19] > %temp%\regini.txt regini %temp%\regini.txt Win Defender will never see the light after this, ever again
ZoneAlarm has had a long reputation of being a CPU hog and it's a trait that just doesn't seem to die. Try Tencent PC Manager or 360 Total Security (for free products), if that doesn't fit the bill - go for something regularly on sale and cheaply available, like BullGuard or AVG/Avast.
do you want to get his computer killed? it's only running slow rn, not malware infected slow.. OP: spend 5 to 10 bucks on a key for a year of ESET IS/Kaspersky/Trend Micro/Norton or set Comodo FW up with CS settings for free avoid Panda and Tencent and WD especially
Well they are two of the lightest antiviruses there are, so they won't slow down his computer like Zone Alarm does. But, I'm not too sure I get what you are saying.
Thank you all for the replies. I have turned off defender. Giving it a little more thought. Before Win 10 I use to disconnect from internet. Only way to do that in Win10 is to unplug. I don't do multi player so for the time being I'm just going to disconnect when playing games and turn ZA off. That seems to do the trick. Win10 pis....es me off about not letting me disconnect, so it feels good unplugging anyway. Up yours MS
I don't know how you used to disconnect but, can't you just create a shortcut to the network connection and r-click it to disable? No need to mess with the cables.
