They need to fix this activation thing fast. I don't think any of the PCs at work are affected, but if it becomes that way I don't have the time to deal with their mess up. I would switch to an alternative, if there was one. And no, Linux on the desktop and anything Apple are not alternatives that will work. I think some of the folks at Microsoft should be working at Taco Bell. Except for the fact that they would mess up my order if I went there.

    Hello,
This just happened to me on Windows 10 Pro 64-bit Version 1809 (OS Build 17763.55). Windows is prompting me to activate but I am so far still on the Pro version and have not been downgraded to Home.

It won't physically downgrade your system. It just thinks that is what the license is for. If that was what you meant.

That would be difficult since most of their tech support is offshored to the country with the cheapest labor rates. I assume that also includes existing product support for things like Win updates since there is no revenue generation from that type of activity.

Wow just wow. Glad my Windows 10 units are offline for some weeks now. What is up with that bunch anyway?

Things like this (again) scream for a Bill Gates snap surprise return just to reorient this current collection of slapstick comedians if only for a brief time.

Things were better with Bill than any of his replacements. In any case I am seeing reports that the activation issue is fixed now.

Whew! I didn't realize Microsoft has resumed the 1809 upgrade rollout effective 10 AM EST Nov. 13.

So if you're doing manual 1803 Win Update checking, be careful …………………. At least, it wasn't forced on my Home 1803 build when I did a manual Win Update check at 3 PM yesterday.

I've not found that any PCs here picked up the 1809 update when checking for it manually. I downloaded the ISO file and I am manually installing it. Half of the PCs here have been on it since its original release, and none of them had any issues. It will be nice to have them all on the same version again.

What a bunch of Microsoft double-talk garbage!
I guess the "small percentage" of "seekers" are any Home version user that manually checks for Win Updates. Usually in most cases because friggin Win Updates never works properly in informing that updates are available.

Sorry Microsoft, most are damn tired of you being "big brother" when it comes to what should or should not be installed on one's PC. Just clean up your house and allow Home users the right to delay any feature upgrade just like you do for all your other Windows 10 versions.

-EDIT- The best public rebuke to date is here: https://www.ghacks.net/2018/11/14/microsoft-update-quality-is-better-than-ever/

I thought the original justification for removing the option to defer updates was people were missing out on important security and bug fixes...? Now Microsoft is using Windows Updates to introduce new features, in other words to market Windows 10. It seemed a lot better when they offered apps, like Streets and Trips and Digital Image Pro, for people who wanted to add features without putting the whole operating system at risk.

I don't think they were missing updates as much as avoiding them. I do understand why they want to standardize everyone as much as possible. It's not terrible until you mess up, then you forcibly mess up everyone.

I miss things like Streets and Trips, and Encarta, and all of those old things.

That is what they advertised. Microsoft's dream is to go from an OS -> an OS as a service -> a service [minimal system= kernel + core components + services (pay per use)].
Sooner or later all the windows 10 evangelists/fanboys (I'm not talking about those in MS payroll) will be knocking their head on the wall because they let it happen but will be too late.
On a OS agreement MS could not change the rules whenever they wanted, the initial agreement was/is always valid.
On a OS as a service agreement, you agree to the service... MS can and will change the rules and if you do not agree, you stop using the service (= you have a useless machine that you cannot afford to become a "brick" since you already invested on it).
At the beggining was a "free" upgrade or a one time purchase. In the near future it will become a paid service like office 365.
Renting something is much more profitable on the long run, than selling it for a higher initial price.

bottomline: You'll will pay for your hardware and Microsoft will keep "milking" you for the "right" to use it...;)

Has anyone been afforded the 1809 Feature Upgrade since the re-release?
