I posted this at the Veracrypt forum several days ago. No response whatsoever.
The same pattern has persisted for the past 2 days. Only folders from the encrypted partition are affected.

So, today, I reverted back to Veracrypt 1.21, thus eliminating the problem with the Veracrypt interface focus that I described earlier. Hopefully, this reversion will also address and solve the related taskbar button problem.

Usually the frozen taskbar buttons happen after some random period of time. I will just have to wait and see whether it occurs or not. I'll report back.

If someone could confirm that v1.21 is safe and secure to use, I would appreciate it.

If the password dialog doen't appear, it might be an issue with the option "Use Secure Desktop for password entry".
Do you have this option enabled?

Forgive me if I didn't explain clearly. The password dialog does appear.

But after you open the password dialog, if you give focus to another window before completing the password process, and try to go back to the Veracrypt interface by clicking the Veracrypt taskbar button, the password dialog will not be visible.

This occurs in all versions above 1.21. It's more of annoyance than anything else, but for me, the real problem is that it seems to be linked to this frozen button thing I described.

All I really need to know is if v1.21 is safe and secure to use.

Difference btwn v1.21 & the latest in regard to security (except for fixes which indirectly improve security) is only these:
The latter is relevant only if you use VC on SSD. The former may sound scary, but actually you're safe.

The question is who will read the kernel memory and how. In usual use case, it means you have malicious process running. But if you're infected, probably you have more things to worry about - such an attacker can just steal your encrypted contents when mounted or conduct direct memory attack to steal encryption key. There're other cases sure, e.g. you're using the same machine w/ others and you changed VC setting of auto-dismount, and even forgot to dismount when you leave your PC. Now adversary came to the PC, but PC was locked (screen saver), so he logged in w/ his own login ID and exploit the vuln to get 3 or 25 bytes of memory. After hundreds or thousands of trials, he may get your encryption key - but if I was such an attacker, probably it would be easier to install malware or even set hidden camera to get your password.

tl;dr Yes, you're safe as far as known problems are concerned.

    Thanks 142395 for that info.

Are you using Veracrypt 1.23? If so, do you see the behavior I was talking about (hidden password dialog)?

Yes and no. I use 1.23, but when the dialog appears I can't move to any other window as it is secure desktop.
