How do I Stop Edge from Automatically Starting?

Unless you actually plan to 'use' Edge you could always remove it with something like NTLite. Can't start what isn't there...

 

I have been using this to prevent starting Edge, I use it at the apply stage and Edge never started once on any of my systems again:

I didn't realize that debugger had a null option.

Would be wise for one to verify that the corresponding key for their security solution could not be modified as such.

Again, you can uninstall Edge just like you would any other Win 10 app. Just open up its settings and an uninstall option exists there.

I will say that that it gets weirder by the day as far as Win 10 1803 and MS Edge goes.

Yesterday my HIPS rule blocked two hidden attempted Edge startups within 20 mins. of each other. Since then I have had no other attempted startups. It is as if Edge realized it was behaving badly, knew it was caught in the act, and desisted the bad behavior. Perhaps Microsoft did indeed build AI capability into Win 10 1803?

 

umm, sorry but as seen clearly in the photo you uploaded, that "uninstall" button is greyed out. you can't uninstall edge without a 3rd party tool.

 

Yeah, looks like you're correct.

My experience so far on 1803 has been once Edge is blocked from executing, it won't try to auto start and suspend again.

However and this is weird if you manually start Edge; i.e. remove the start up block, thereafter the bugger will later startup in suspended mode. It is like Windows knows its unblocked and will then start its telemetry activities via Edge.

Hi Came. I am going to tell you my experience with Edge. Its been the same in every W10 build I used.

I am not an Edge user. The only time it runs in my computer, is when I run it. If I run it, it stays running until I reboot ot shut down the computer. It doesn't go Suspended, but uses little memory. The fact that it stays running when I run it is annoying but fortunately, I only run it once or twice for about 30 seconds after updates. Only use it in one single website that I trust (Wilders ), and then never run it again till the next update. As far as I can remember, I never seen it running during computer cold starts or after a reboot.

Perhaps, when I first got W10, it did run on cold start, but if it did, I must of have disabled Edge from running via Settings. I have never used any program to make changes in Windows than Windows doesn't give us the setting. The only 2 changes I done in Windows not via settings that have always worked out good were, bringing back Windows photo viewer and disabling Windows defender. I mention this things because perhaps some of the people with issues with Edge, have messed around too much using programs to change Windows. I never used this type of programs, I dont have issues with Edge.

I know Bo, I can brake something like WU, I have had this issue because I change something via settings and I end up formatting my HDD and installing again Win 10 a totally mess
