Bit Defender way over rated?

I would say so (over rated).

 

Most people here admit to using a layed approach and have other security installed also. Bitdefender runs well with nothing.

 

Excellent detction rate, but miserable performance. This is my personal experience with BD. So it's not overrted as far as its detection of viruses, trojans etc. is concerned; performance-wise, however, I do think BD is overrated.

I always find BD bugginess overweighs its excellent detection rate.

 

For me I have BDIS running alongside with all real-time protections turned on with Malwarebytes AND Zemana without issues on 2 of my PCS

 

My thoughts exactly. Bought BD IS 2019 last week as it was under heavy discount as compared to Kaspersky and also that many reviews stated that it is the lightest AV around. Unfortunately, it isn't the case.

Every second day, it seems to be doing something at start-up and it make system crawl for about 10-15 minutes. I presume it starts an update as soon as the system logs on...

 

Against true zero-day malware (the stuff actively being pushed out by true Blackhats), BD is just OK and certainly not excellent. Please don't be fooled by the Pro AV tests which rarely if ever run their tests when the malware is D+1 or newer.

Those that seek to make money out of infecting you will not use older malware; sadly this is exactly what the Pro Testing sites use (everyone gets a Medal).

 

Hi Cruelsister, out of curiosity, we all know that no AV will guarantee 100% security therefore in your experience what layer/s would you add to give extra protection for 0 days?

 

Virtualization is optimal, but one could get by with a good HIPS (although they are a bit noisy).

 

Exactly my thoughts thanks, HIPS requires a steep learning curve and fastidious monitoring (good for knowledgeable people), virtualization is my choice as it is easier for laypeople…
