PSA: Classic Shell is now Open Shell Menu – and a warning https://borncity.com/win/2018/08/11/psa-classic-shell-is-now-open-shell-menu-and-a-warning/
I have ClassicShell 4.3.1 on my Windows 8.1 laptop and want to update to Open-shell 4.4.131 I want to make sure I'm doing everything correct before doing the update so that everything will be as it is right now after I've updated. I need to backup the settings for both Classic Explorer and Start Menu. I noticed that there is an option with Start Menu to 'clear cached information'. Should I be doing this? Thanks
Well, I have updated but soon reverted to CS 4.3.1 because the OS isn't final version and brings nothing more or new. Moreover there are certain doubts over OS security (please read a few posts above). Unless you have a special reason to move to OS you don't need it.
A look at Open Shell (Classic Shell fork) September 5, 2019 https://www.ghacks.net/2019/09/05/a-look-at-open-shell-classic-shell-fork/

Agree - I have both Windows 10 Start Menu and Open Shell Menu on my pc and use which ever I feel like at the time. Usually it's Open Shell as it's more comfortable for me.
Installed the latest version...awesome thanks mood! Now can you download more skins somewhere? thanks
Windows 7 Classic and Black Pre-configured XML file and Black Skin: http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/open-shell.820869/ For the Alienware Black/Silver Skin instructions, see (you don't need to download the files again though they're all included in the first post) = http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/alienware-customization-wallpapers-oem-info-start-menu.832350/ Let me know if you face any issues. PS: Don't forget to unblock the ZIP file after download it otherwise all the extracted content will have a blocked status (I removed this stupid blocking of downloaded files via the Group Policy Editor) PS 2: Lemme know if you need the Windows Update shortcut so it would look exactly like how Windows 7 was
1) If you want the plain and simple Black Theme in the first image, place Metro-Win10-Black.skin7 in C:\Program Files\Open-Shell\Skins Then import the Menu Settings-Black.xml in the settings 2) If you want the Alienware Theme for both Black or Silver. a) Place the Alienware.skin and Alienware.skin7 AND from the INVADER folder, place the Invader Docked.skin , Invader Docked.skin7 , Invader Floating.skin, Invader Floating.skin7 in the C:\Program Files\Open-Shell\Skins folder b) Copy/Paste the Alienware Orbs into: C:\Program Files\Open-Shell\ Then import either the Menu Settings_Alienware_Black.xml OR Menu Settings_Alienware_Silver.xml file into the Open-Shell Settings
done and thank you..just two more question where do i put the orbs to change icon and how do i remove the search option? thanks so much brother
You can put them wherever you wish but I would place the entire orbs folder in C:\Program Files\Open-Shell\ to match the settings XML file otherwise if you get the default icon, you would need to manually browse to where the orb icon is located with regards to the start menu built in search, give me until tomorrow as I just formatted so once I have installed everything I'll fish around in the settings for ya. Cheers
Now that i got this program down real nice..thanks to Spartan...does any one know where to get more real cool and clean ORB'S?? thank you
