Criptext Announces New Email Client With Focus on Your Privacy August 09, 2018 https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/ne...-new-email-client-with-focus-on-your-privacy/
Does this is still email anymore? I don't thinks so. I don't see any "smtp" word in the whole whitepaper. Just another messaging program, that uses Signal library. This time with more email'ish graphical interface and feature to send "real" emails to people without that program, so they can be notified and see messages in their web browser. There is not decentralization in this whole service. It is owned by one company.
This does not sound like an email client to me. As it states on their web site it is an email service. It really does not sound like that either, as @reasonablePrivacy has already mentioned, more like a messaging service. I am not to thrilled with this: "When you send an email to non-Criptext email addresses they get a link that displays the encrypted message on a browser." "To reveal the message your recipient must enter the password that you set on the email prior to sending it." So what then.... phone call?, send password via some encrypted method? Seem pointless unless all parties use the service.
That's exactly how Tutanota works for sending encrypted mail to correspondents without accounts. Basically, it opens their webmail, with a guest account. CounterMail, on the other hand, actually lets you import GnuPG public keys for correspondents without accounts. And provides users' public keys to those without accounts. I haven't used ProtonMail enough to know how they handle messages to correspondents without accounts. Yes, you must share the password somehow. And it's not always easy, I know.
I don't know about you guys, but it does sound kinda cool to me. Especially because both Yahoo Mail and Gmail are crap when it comes to the GUI and speed.
