Good security apps for protecting against keyloggers?

It seems you have researched keyloggers a lot. Do you know of any anti-keylogger app, other than spyshelter, that is pretty good?

I tested it for a while. It's not very good. Creates some issues with programs and the protection is questionable, I think.

I tested KeyScrambler: Typing is very slow with it. It's as if every key lags half a second behind. You have to wait for a sentence to appear in order to see what you wrote. Don't like it.

Also tested SpyShelter: Demo version is garbage after the trial is over. No protection anymore. Expensive.

And Zemana is no longer any good. Never tested the old version though. I don't want something that is 5 years old to protect me.


I no longer use any Anti-Keylogger since they all had it's issues and I don't have much money.

 

Since you have switched Eset, you already have keylogger protection; at least on Banking and Payment Protection web sites. It will scramble all keystokes in BPP armored browser mode. Tested it against a .Net based global keylogger that the major anti-keylogger solutions had trouble detecting.

 

Thanks for that information. I still have a bit of a problem. Namely, I have >150 passwords, all are very lengthy. I am involved in numerous matters requiring login because of the nature of information being handlled. It is not practical for me to enter lengthy PWs & related information by hand. So I feel I may not be able to avoid getting a dedicated anti-keylogger app. I just wish there were more options.

 

@bellgamin why not use a password manager like Bitwarden?

 

I have used KeePass, a password manager, for a long time. IMO, the vulnerability of KeePass lies in the fact that it pastes login information to the website via the clipboard.

I am in the process of trying out Bitwarden per your suggestion. Bitwarden is splendid. I am surprised that I had never heard of it until now. THANK you! By the way, Bitwarden was a very easy add-on to my Firefox browser. So far I *think* that Bitwarden does NOT use the clipboard when entering login information. If I am correct... GREAT!

I studied as much information as was available on the Bitwarden site. However, I didn't see a clear explanation of how login information gets from Bitwarden to the website where I am logging in. Hopefully Bitwarden's entry of login info does not involve the clipboard in any way.

New but related topic --- as I understand it, any keylogger must hook the keyboard in some way, & also must somehow attain monitorship of the clipboard. Correct? Such being the case, it seems to me that a good Behavior Blocker (such as Emsisoft's) should readily detect any keylogger that got past other security apps. Am I right or wrong? If I am wrong, then there must be keyloggers out there that are incredibly stealthy -- in which case, "Katy, bar the door!" If I am right, then use of those AVs with proven behavior blockers or HIPS should make it desirable-but-not-absolutely-essential to use a dedicated anti-keylogger. Right?

There is on real free version of SS anymore whose protection doesn't deactivate itself 3h after boot.

Anti-loggers were popular when HIPS and BB were too complicated for basic users, now that BB are everywhere and easy to use, Anti-loggers started to die.

 

@bellgamin avlab.pl conducted online banking protection test which analyzed the ability of security solutions to protect clipboard data and stop keylogging.

The SS freebie I found says it is no longer supported. That is, it is free "abandonedware."

Yes, these are the only ones that proactively protect against key/screen/clipboard/mic and webcam loggers. This means if AV fail to detect, they will still alert about it, or automatically block it via keystroke encryption.

 

Agree, especially as to SS. Sadly, Zemana appears to be "abandonedware" at the moment. Further, Zemana lacks the powerful & configurable HIPS that is integral to SS.

 

Yes correct, I forgot that Zemana doesn't offer a user controllable HIPS anymore, so that makes SS your only choice. But it's indeed too expensive for my taste, they should lower prices.
