I am trying Eazy Fix from http://www.eazsolutions.com Eazy Fix is a Windows Time Machine! It lets users to instantly undo PC problems by reverting the PC back to last hour, yesterday, last week or last month before the problems have happened. Eazy Fix works even if Windows O.S. fails to bootup. I have Eazy Fix and Recovery Tools for USB. I created few snapshots and let the program create few automatic hourly screenshots. I successfully restored to few snapshots. Recovery Tools for USB I successfully created a Bootable USB Recovery Media with Rufus. And successfully booted the recovery media. There was a desktop with icons This PC, a .ini file, Recovery Tools, etc. And there was a window with options Run Scavenger Tool, few backup options, decrypt disk, etc. I exited. I was just checking the recovery media works or not. I have PM the recovery tools to TheRollbackFrog for his expertise.
On what basis it's Rebranded Rollback? I find Eazy Fix better, direct download installers, updated recovery tools, good support, etc. I don't know which is original and rebranded. Both released version 11. Version 11 Properties- Eazy Fix Certificate Valid from 2/6/2018 to 12/31/2019 and Rollback Certificate Valid from 4/19/2018 to 4/20/2019.
from what i heard, both are sister companies owned by the same people, eazy-fix was the original, then the dev moved to HDS. eazsolutions, INC = oversea distribution HDS = USA distribution
@guest is close. HDS was first with Rollback, followed by EAZfix as a rebranding partner. EAZfix does concentrate its marketing overseas with HDS concentrating in the States and also with Corporate licensing... both can sell individual licenses to anyone. EAXfix used to be a minor version or two behind HDS but they seemed to have gotten much closer over the years (but still different by a few minor versions). The EAZfix Recovery Tools are exactly the same as HDS Recovery Tools except EAZfix has at least supplied a File Explorer with its USB toolset... its CD version still has no explorer for recovering files from mounted snapshots. My recovery Tools testing on my Legacy-MBR SSD-based laptop fails miserably. When "recovering" from a non-broken EAXfix protected partition, it sees the partition as RAW formatted and does not allow access to the partition for Shield.dat selection (which is needed for snapshot access). If you remove the special EAZfix MBR, the protected partition may be seen but it throws out a different error associated with saving some sort of DMP file. These applications and their Recovery Tools are exactly the same...
If you have EAZfix (or Rollback RX) installed on your production System with some snapshots, you "should" be able to BOOT up the appropriate Recovery Media, select the appropriate "shield.dat" file, select the found snapshot of choice and MOUNT it using the Scavenger. Assuming the Recovery Media you're using has some sort of File Explorer, you should be able to see the mounted snapshot and associated files... none of this should affect your System in any way. BUT... my testing has found this ability to be spotty at best, and without an Explorer on the Recovery Media, snapshot mounting is useless. Clearly you don't wanna wait until your System blows up to find out if any of this works... it'll be too late then to find out it doesn't. I don't like to make recommendations but personally I stopped using Redirect-on-Write snapshot software (Rollback RX, EAZfix) in 2015, instead selecting Difference Restoration imaging software (MACRIUM Reflect, TERABYTE UNLIMITED TeraByte Drive Image Backup and Restore) as my primary backup/snapshot solution for my production Systems... I really haven't looked back since.
The unusual thing about the more modern Recovery Media from both Horizon Datasys and EAZfix, both appear to be much more unreliable on protected Systems than the older Recovery Media (based on BartPE <Windows XP>) was on product versions v9 and earlier. I have no idea why other than System configurations have gotten much more "comprehensive" (UEFI-GPT, Windows 7/8/10) than the Windows XP days. I think I can also say the products have become somewhat more stable over the years, but they still break for many unknown reasons. When they do, it can be devastating for the user if he doesn't have a good backup plan (System & Files) for their System. Without that backup plan, the application-supplied Recovery Media is the only way back to those files... and these days that seems to be way more flaky than it used to be.
I have Eazy Fix and USB Recovery Media. I booted the recovery media, selected "Run Scavenger Tool" and tried to mount the installation and other snapshots. It mentioned couldn't mount.
That's one of the things the current Recovery Media from both vendors (EAZfix and HDS) does... and I have no idea why. The Scavenger is trying to do a standard Windows mount request to the WinPE core and it just doesn't work. I really can't offer any additional guidance here...
@yashkhan - did EAZ give you any documentation on the use of the Scavenger or any of the other Recovery Tools? If not, you might ask for some if it's available.
I used Eazy Fix many years ago, it worked fine and it was reliable, then I used the " Try and decide " function of Acronis True Image: I used them only to try a new software without install in my system and then decide. Which free software could now use to do this ? ( To do system images I use AOMEI and I'm happy with it ).
@TheRollbackFrog I just sent an email for the documentation to the Support. It's weekend, we may get one on Monday, if available. I checked the FAQ and Knowledgebase. They have all the info and issues listed. It's good and helpful.
The last decent FREE one was RETURNIL and that hasn't been updated since 2011. The best available today, Shadow Defender, is a $35 dollar solution but it's excellent for what you are trying to do.
Thank you, I remember Returnil, I used it. And Power Shadow too. Very old software now. I believe that there is some other more recent program, but I can't remember it.
@TheRollbackFrog There was an issue with the Recovery Tools. They fixed it. I checked and all the snapshots mounted successfully except base/installation, base snapshot mounted but clicking on it mentioned to format the disk. Win 10 Pro 64 Bit UEFI System Fully Updated I have PM the new Recovery Tools for USB to you.
My experience with the EAZfix Recovery Tools mentioned by @yashkhan above was "almost" exactly the same as his. Indeed their support fixed some issues with the earlier Recovery Media and the Snapshot Scavenger now works "most" of the time. Using the other tools all failed due to the fact that you must locate special items on the protected disk and each tool you use fails to find that disk usable and wants to dump a file somewhere... this fails before a dump is made. I also found that after using the Scavenger Tool, then attempting to use others that failed, when I went back to the Scavenger Tool, it also failed to mount snapshots once again... this continued ad infinitum until the Rescue Tools Media was reBooted, then Scavenger worked once again. Kudos to EAZfix for even trying to get this Recovery Tool environment to work properly... they still have a ways to go, though. At least the Scavenger Tool operates correctly (the first time) with yashkhan's UEFI-GPT 64-bit environment as well as my Legacy-MBR 64-bit environment. I say this only for the USB Recovery Media... the CD/DVD Recovery Media still has no way to explore the mounted snapshots, even if you could mount them. ...and to prove they are clones of each other, the EAZfix Scavenger Tool works just fine with a Rollback RX protected System, and the SSD TRIM function remains non-functional when running an EAZfix protected System. Best of luck...
@TheRollbackFrog To recover files, you should mount the snapshots and copy the files in an external drive, etc, right? You cannot repair the damaged Eazy Fix?
Yes, files must be copied to a non-PROTECTED partition, either internal or external. No repair is available for damaged PROTECTED volumes. Please understand I am referring to Rollback RX protected volumes, I have never used EAZfix (other than the recent basic testing). But the applications, other than company branding, are IDENTICAL (plus or minus a minor version or 2).
Just for the info.. I find HDS a minor version or two behind EAZ. HDS Rolllback Rx, Reboot Restore and Drive Cloner all are behind EAZ Eazy Fix, Baseline Shield and Eazy Image. Download section, Eazy Fix build number is lower version compared to Rollback Rx but Eazy Fix download gives higher version than Rollback Rx.
