Not all AVs. And with a lot of them you can disable that in settings. Can that be also done in Windows 10 with some changes in settings?
See https://www.ivpn.net/blog/are-anti-malware-products-uploading-your-private-data It's dated, I know, but hey
Yes, different AV vendors have different approach when it comes to your data. Also, changing default settings in their product usually changes what data is shared., EDIT: thnx for sharing mirimir. Interesting read.
we all know that the majority of people (call them average joe/jane, if you like) use their av sw's with default settings, let alone os's. they're like "if it's working, don't fix it".
Yes, I agree that's the case with most users. I was just wondering if there are any options to set up Windows differently.
Everything about Windows 10 privacy August 30, 2018 https://www.askwoody.com/2018/everything-about-windows-10-privacy/
Combining the two terms "Windows 10" and "privacy" is oxymoronic, since Windows 10 probably provides its users with little to no real privacy. And searching for privacy on Windows is a futile effort. And searching for privacy online , or with any device that can connect to the Internet, is overall a futile effort because most people well informed on OpSec should know , by now, how much survelliance and control the government has over the Internet. And slowly, year by year the Internet becomes less and less private, and more and more like a panopticon where tptb can see everything you do, at all times.
All too true. But at least we have VPNs and Tor, and so can compartmentalize and make it harder to identify us and track us down.

Hi JR, I wonder if that program could have avoided this situation today on my fairly new Windows 10 machine: I booted up and a large blue screen with the Microsoft logo covered my entire screen. There was a list of products, none of which I wanted. There was no way to close that screen, and I had to keep continuing, declining at each prompt until it came to the last page. This is an invasion of my privacy. That blue screen essentially locked my computer from doing anything but wade through the adverts. Interestingly, this evening I received a prompt from the MS feed back survey: How likely are you to recommend Windows to someone. I checked "1" - least likely. In the feedback comments I included the 2nd and 3rd paragraphs above. Hope all is well with you! -rich
Rich, perhaps it could have: Sounds to me like you encountered the Windows Welcome Experience screen. Nice to have you back!
Thanks JR for the information. It's a shame users have to employ a 3rd party program to make the OS behave in the manner they want. Another example. This is my Desktop using one of my photographs: When I put the computer into Sleep Mode, this is what appears when I resume: It is basically a Microsoft promotion. I have to click on the picture to bring up my default Desktop. Do others with Windows 10 encounter this? It is an invasion of my privacy to take over something on my computer that I haven't authorized. IMHO. -rich
