There doesn't seem to be a thread about this software that i noticed on their website after looking for a newer version of ransomoff.

    To the problem.
I noticed it is for only x64 systems but it doesnt seem to say which versions of windows it supports.

On windows 7 the installer launches and immediately quits without any notification.

Has anyone had it working on windows 7 home premium?

The RansomOff website says it supports Windows 7 SP1, 8, 8.1 and 10. As it supports Windows 7, it should not matter what edition of Windows 7 you are running.

You would be best of contacting them via their support page.

    "Versions
MinerOff currently only supports x64 systems. The latest version of MinerOff is v1.2018.81.648 released on 21 March 2018."

seems to not have it mentioned there.

    Your link goes to ransomoff

    But thanks

That was a mistake. It does seem that they do not state the system requirements for MinerOff anywhere.

I'll will probably give this a try. With web sites switching to doing coin mining via a proxy server on the web server, the only way to detect coin mining will be a spike in your CPU activity.

I want to give this a try but this is the second Heilig's program I found which tries to create a system restore point during install.
In my case I have System Restore off.
Your installer "hangs" around 2 min. trying to create it until the popup shows up.

Could you please make the installer smart enough to detect when a computer has System Restore disabled and skip its attempt of creation?

    Thanks in advance.

It is smart enough but when it detects it turned off it tries to turn it back on. That's probably where it's hanging. Next release we will make System Restore an option though. Thanks for the suggestion.

Good catch. We'll update the site to mention the supported OSes. Right now MinerOff, like RansomOff, works for Windows 7 SP1+. MinerOff though is only 64-bit at the moment as the page says.

That's strange. We didn't have any Windows 7 install issues during testing. You're running at least SP1 right?

This is exactly what I don't want the installer to fiddle with. I like System Restore disabled and expect programs/installers to respect that. Thank you.

We just updated all the installers (RO, MinerOff, AppPacCap and CyDec) to include an option for creating a system restore point.

    Hi Dave

Is there any information on MinerOff? I am interested in understanding more about what it does, etc.

Have tried to access the site from the "Want protection from browser based crypto-miners? Check out MinerOff." link but I get a "Error code 101 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_RESET)" message back.

    Regards, Baldrick

    @HeiDef

Is MinerOff supposed to show in the system tray ? I have it set to start with windows and after every restart I have to start it manually via its desktop icon.

Does it run in the background without showing up in the system tray ?

    Win10x64 1803

It is supposed to show in the system tray. It sounds like it's not starting with Windows properly. Can you verify that the startup key is set in the registry? It's set at HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run. If it is properly set, can you then check the Event Viewer to see if it is crashing? Right click the start menu, goto Event Viewer then expand 'Windows Logs' in the left hand tree menu and click 'Application.' Scroll through the list of messages looking for any Error types that occur during boot up time frame. If you can't find any, then look in the Heilig Defense logs located under the 'Application and Service Logs' tree item. It may be closing due to an initialization error during boot up.

Apologies for not replying earlier. Must of missed this message. Our current web server has been having some resource issues. We are actually going to be upgrading shortly. But it's likely you just caught it during one of its fits. You posted back in April so hopefully you've since been able to check it out.

The startup key is in the registry

    MinerOff.PNG

Looking in 'Event Viewer' >> 'Windows Logs' >> 'Application' there no errors during the boot time frame. Looking under Heilig Defense there are four and I believe these are when I closed MinerOff.

    eventviewer.PNG

When I restart I will keep a lookout in Event Viewer for any errors. This also happens on a second System, (Win10x64 1709) MinerOff will not start after a restart. Ill check the Registry Key & Event Viewer Logs on the other system tomorrow.

    Hi Dave

How are you, mon ami? Well I hope...and not working too hard on Memorial Day? ;)

No need to apologise...it was no biggie issue and as you say I posted back in April, and have since tried again...successful this time...so all good.

But thanks for taking the time to check back...I know you are busy so it is much appreciated. :thumb:

After uninstalling MinerOff on both system's and (reboot) re-installing I'm still having to open the program from the desktop on both system's. Also on both system's I have to exit MinerOff from the system tray before I can reboot or shut down as the system's will ask to close MinerOff.

    Hi

Although I set HD MinerOff to start with Windows start but it's not starting as shown in Task Manager. And, I'm not seeing it in the system tray. I need to start it manually.

I think there's a bug here. Can you look into this?

    Thanks

Seems like the same problem @ronald739 was having. I'm curious if there's a permissions issue setting the start up registry key. I'll definitely take another look though.

    Thanks

Another issue. After I tested HD MinerOff on Chrome browser for the below site

    https://windscribe.com/miner/76ymafne

I answered 'No' to the pop up by HD MinerOff and Chrome browser shuts down immediately. After that I'm unable to open Chrome browser again. I need to reboot my tablet for Chrome browser to work again. Is this normal behavior for HD MinerOff?

    Thanks again

After it closes, are any instances still shown in Task Manager? If there are, try to force kill them then open Chrome again. There is always risk when an app does something to another app that it doesn't expect to happen. Normally, browsers are pretty well segmented these days and at most a tab or two should crash instead of the whole app but if the miner thread that was killed was really the main thread then that would cause everything to close. I haven't been able to recreate that in testing but it's possible.

For the startup issue, it seems to be a UAC settings problem. We'll re-configure how it loads during startup so UAC isn't an issue.

We just uploaded the updated MinerOff (v1.2018.193.1838 ) This fixes the start up problem along with a few other minor things. Please uninstall the previous version and restart your system before installing this update.
