I know, but still expensive compared to most other VPN's. But, of all the other VPN's I have tested and researched, only Mullvad comes close IMO. Only thing that made me choose IVPN over Mullvad was the design of their client software. Appearance counts to me! On a side note, I wouldn't use IVPN's settings on your router's VPN section as it's still too slow. Even with stock, Tomato or DD-WRT. At least on my router. Robert
$70.00 is still better than $100.00 and my SlickVPN is about to expire and it was $25.00 per year and heard nothing but good things about IVPN from @mirimir SlickVPN was a little temperamental at times so I'm glad I made the change!
I have two additional questions: 1. They offer 3 day trial, but you have to provide billing information to get it. Is it easy to cancel trial before you get billed, or do you have to contact someone to cancel it? 2. Can you block specific application from connecting to net while VPN is connected? I would like to block torrent client if I forget to close it before establishing VPN connection. Wouldn't like to get account canceled because of it (at least that's written in their TOS).
1) From https://www.ivpn.net/knowledgebase/83/Does-IVPN-offer-a-free-trial.html 2) I don't think so. Maybe someone who uses their client can say whether its firewall allows that. And about torrenting, it's not that IVPN doesn't allow it. From https://www.ivpn.net/knowledgebase/78/Do-you-allow-P2P-or-BitTorrent-or-torrents-downloading.html So just don't use their US exits for torrenting
Thnx mirimir. Will give it a try when my current subscription ends. Regarding torrenting, I'm concerned about no. 5 in their TOS: https://www.ivpn.net/tos. I use only encrypted torrent traffic, but you never know...
Yes, I see. But I asked, and get that IVPN doesn't attempt to detect or block P2P on any servers. Even the US ones. It's an honor system. I mean, they help protect you, so it's only fair that you help protect them.
OK that's fair. I don't torrent over VPN, just sometimes forget to shut it down. I will take their free 3 days and test to see how I like it. Thnx again for providing info, mirimir.
IVPN's computer client Firewall and Connection options. View attachment 261441 I Do not torrent or P2P. Robert
Thnx Robert. As I thought - firewall only blocks possible IP leaks and doesn't offer an option to make rules for specific apps.
Client software on Android's IVPN's Advanced settings has Split tunneling. "Choose which apps you want to use with IVPN." Robert
True. But the new Mullvad app for windows is just god-awful bad. It's so bloated and featureless that I might consider switching (Mullvad makes you use newer versions of apps). Mullvad seems to be going in a downward trajectory.
Hello, I am considering moving away from my current VPN provider. I need a VPN that is dual stack (supports both IPv4 and IPv6) for some of the work that I do. I am very interested in iVPN. Does anyone know if iVPN supports IPv6? I could not find the answer on their website and have sent them a message but no reply back yet.
According to this, IPVN does not support ipv6 yet. Andj, as I recall, my connections from ipvn revealed no ipv6 info. I know that mullvad does support ipv6 and ipv4 though.
Hello @n8chavez, Thanks for the reply and link . I searched all over their site and did not find that .
One more question from me: does IVPN client require Administrator rights? I know that Mullvad client needs those rights and it was annoying to enter admin credentials each time I tried to run it. That's one of the reasons I use native OpenVPN client instead of theirs.
I think that any app that modifies networking needs that. But I don't remember for sure, about any of them.
Yes, that's probably why OpenVPN installs a service, so modification can be made through GUI without user having administrator rights.
IVPN doesn't support IPv6, and its firewall blocks it completely. AirVPN and several others do the same. I found four VPN services that support IPv6, and provide a new IPv6 exit address in their own subnet: AzireVPN, FrootVPN, MyIP and Perfect Privacy. However, both AzireVPN and MyIP leaked IPv4 during reconnection, after the uplink had been interrupted. But I didn't manage to get FrootVPN or Perfect Privacy to leak IPv4 or IPv6. But remember that these are now old results. And many VPN clients have certainly changed. So you should test a client yourself, before relying on it. The methods sections in https://vpntesting.info/ are quite detailed. And I'll be happy to answer any questions.
Thanks for this list. I've also found that Mullvad has IPv6 and provides a new IPv6 exit address on their own subnet. Haven't tested the leak during re-connection.
Hello, FYI: AirVPN with IPv6 has just come out of beta testing and released as stable. They are in the process of upgrading all of their servers to handle the new IPv6. A lot of the servers already have been upgraded but some still remain as this is an ongoing process. You can either use their Eddie client or use the config generator to generate OpenVPN configuration files (.ovpn) to use with OpenVPN. Details here: IPv6 support and new smart features
