Uninstalled CCleaner due to lost trust. Alternatives?

Is there a good alternative cleaner -- one that is equally as thorough as CCleaner? AND as safe as CCleaner?

==> I'm sorry about this dumb comment in the middle of an ongoing discussion about alternatives to CCleaner. I made this comment in a different thread. A Mod moved it to this thread... rightly so. I had not known about this thread or I would not have asked the above stupid question.

 

Yes, Privacy Eraser. It most resembles CCleaner as far as features and safety are concerned. This thread might be of your interest.

 

I now use Wise Care 365 on a regular basis - seems to do a very thorough job ...and no complaints!

 

Is the free version as good as CCleaner or do you need the 'Pro' version to achieve it ?

I checked Privacy Eraser. It looks V. good for me to try-out. There is a "pro" version. I looked at the Compare table & saw just one possibly significant difference. That difference is labelled...

. =>Can someone interpret that for me? I'm not sure what it means.

Anyway, pro has it, free doesn't.

 

They are standards for wiping out files from the disk. Nothing I would have to pay for the pro version, imho.

I've been testing it recently. It does a very good job of finding junk files and will find junk that other cleaners miss. But, the registry cleaner is badly coded and has issues with false positives. However, the disk cleaner should be safe to use.

 

Wise Disk Cleaner here also. Thiough I have still been using PortableApps version of CCleaner.

And Kerish Doctor has given me no problems either.

If you ignore the Vista-era look and all the other (unnecessary imo) bells and whistles HDCleaner has one of the best disk cleaners, it finds stuff that even CCleaner+CCEnhancer misses

 

If so, I wouldn't use it. I still have fond memories of how the enhancer broke my Vista PC. As regards cleaners, I prefer less cleaning but being rather on the safe side. That's my approach.

 

I've looked at what files it wants to remove and as far I can tell, it is completely safe to use. It finds more junk than other cleaning software, because it looks for junk and log files from many more programs, than other cleaning software does. It does not scan your entire hard drive for files with certain file extensions. Some cleaning software does that, in order to find more junk and it can cause problems. Sometimes what one program uses as a file extension for temporary files, another software will use for its data files.

I can't really comment on CCEnhancer. I've only used it once, as I generally avoid CCleaner and don't use it on any of my computers.

 

OK, thanks. In such a case it is much safer than CCEnhancer.

I've been using PrivaZer (free portable version) ever since CCleaner lost my trust. Safe and has worked very well (so far); was easy to setup to my preferences; discloses everything it is about to clean; provides for creating a system restore point and/or backup/restore of its registry changes.

Anyone have a negative experience with PrivaZer?

 

Fwiw I just tried this one to see how it compared to PrivaZer and in my opinion it falls way short. I found the UI too cluttered, it didn't reveal the individual items it cleaned nor was I able to find a backup/restore provision!

 

Just double click on any item it wants to clean and it will list everything that will be deleted. It only has registry backup and restore. It won't delete any needed files, so a backup function is not needed, in my opinion.

 

Thanks for the feedback Roger, but I still much prefer PrivaZer. Just this guy's druthers!

 

Another PrivaZer fan here. Tried most. if not all, of the cleaners mentioned in this thread (after dumping CCleaner) and found PrivaZer fit my needs best without messing-up anything.

which cleaners are optimized for SSD? I wanted to try HDcleaner but it appears to be for a mechanical drive.

wiping SSD is not effective from what I have read. the electron data is spread all over the place.

 

Do any of these let you save cookies like ccleaner does?
