Don't know if the site or article is reliable, but I use IVPN. Plus, if you click on the link provided, 30% off the regular price of $100 will be applied. https://thewirecutter.com/reviews/best-vpn-service/ Robert
IVPN is always among our top 3 here (many would never consider them not 1 or 2 at the worst). Flawless technology and implementation through and through. Not the cheapest but excellent!
I agree 100%. Even their computer and mobile phone client is well designed and implemented...simple elegance! I would only consider Mullvad if I was to use another VPN. Robert
Huh. I didn't know that IVPN was doing special discounts again. Or that they'd added back the explicit three-day free trial. But damn, $70 per year is a great deal
I thought iVPN didn't do affiliate marketing? https://www.ivpn.net/blog/closed-affiliate-program IMO it is kind of shady to say you don't have an affiliate program, when there actually there is one. http://i67.tinypic.com/11brj13.png
Yeah, good point. I've asked them about it. They did end it, though. But maybe this isn't an affiliate program. In that they're not paying Wirecutter. Just a special offer.
From IVPN Billing to me. "In conjunction with Wirecutter's recommendation, we have a 30% discount on an annual subscription available." https://www.ivpn.net/pricing?r=wirecutter&merchant=IVPN That's why I posted for my fellow members here on Wilders about the discount. Decide for yourself if it's an affiliate partnership. Robert
Let us know if you hear back @mirimir. I doubt that Wirecutter would have selected it as the #1 choice without an affiliaste payback. Wirecutter (owned by NYTimes) makes all their $ off of affiliate revenue, notice they serve no ads which isn't sustainable for a publisher. The affiliate $ from VPNs are extremely high so it would hurt their business by choosing one that doesn't offer an affiliate program. Mullvad isn't even considered - and it doesn't have an affiliate programmed. @Roberteyewhy Thanks a lot for posting, this is a great deal. The comment about affiliate was more about if iVPN is changing their stance and offering affiliate money to Wirecutter
No offense taken. mirimir knows tons more than I do or ever will about VPN's. He and Lockdown reduced my choices when I was first researching VPN's as both highly praised IVPN and Mullvad. Just liked IVPN better. But, like I posted, if I ever had to choose another VPN, it would be Mullvad. Robert
I get from IVPN's CEO that Wirecutter is not getting payment for placement. And that IVPN's position on that practice hasn't changed since the https://www.ivpn.net/blog/closed-affiliate-program post.
If you're an existing customer who wants to take advantage of that offer to extend their current subscription, contact IVPN support.
Since I was already in contact with IVPN, I have asked the above question. I will post what they reply. Robert
From IVPN's Technical Support. "In regards to the Wirecutter's offer itself, the latter is only applicable to the newly subscribed customer and cannot be applied to the existing IVPN accounts. However, I am quite sure that more offers will be coming throughout the year and our Blog (https://www.ivpn.net/blog/) or Twitter page (https://twitter.com/ivpnnet) is the best place to follow for such promotions." I would still contact them. Maybe you might get 'lucky'. Robert
Thanks a lot for following up. Glad to hear they haven't changed their stance. For others, it's worth noting that if you forget your password and need to create a new account, you would be a new user.
Hey I got the deal! Anything I need to know about tweaking for max security? Or is default good? Thanks!
Glad someone here got in. Great price for an excellent VPN provider. Me, I just check 'Minimize to tray' and leave everything else default. Then just choose single or multi-hop and location(s) and away I go. Super fast servers. Enjoy anonymity, Robert
See here and why use IVPN's Firewall: https://www.ivpn.net/dns-server Leak free, zero-logging DNS IVPN operates its own secure DNS servers so your DNS requests never leak to 3rd parties. And to ensure your client always uses our DNS servers the IVPN firewall blocks all requests to non-IVPN servers. I got to say it's the easiest VPN I ever used for Windows and the Android app is just as awesome and simple!
Yep! Don't get me wrong as IVPN's firewall is always on when I surf the net. Wait until you use their servers, then you will be more impressed! Robert
