Ashampoo Droid Optimizer has this feature to block auto start of apps. the trouble is that if those apps were needed - they are started whether you like it or not. to disable by default you have to use settings -> apps -> disable or uninstall. nevertheless i have around 45/50 apps running and most of them are system apps (os.app), 8gig of 16 in memory. its ok. but i need a smart card with more memory now ^^
My needs are probably very different to many of the others here so my security setup is the same as it has been for nearly 7 years. I [still] use my BlackBerry Bold 9900, and I don't have a need for an AV or a VPN because it's never been online.
yes it has one, you can block apps access to wifi and mobile networks, it is under "Apps management" and it has firewall notifications.
New to me Motorola Nexus 6 64GB rooted on Oreo 8.1. NetGuard through F-Droid for Firewall/Adblocker. Dr. Web Light for Anti-Virus.
eset premium in a samsung note 8.. it is light and superb without the stupid cleaners and all sorts of idiotic stuff
Guys, what is the best way to secure a smartphone when using free WIFI? Is VPN enough and which one do you recommend?
Pers Personally I use Kaspersky Cloud Security/Kaspersky Antivirus with IVPN as well as AdGuard I have Express VPN as a back up. I would recommend a decent top tier Anti virus along with a trusted VPN with some sort of ad blocker, especially if you are on any sort of public not trusted wifi.
Tho "enough" depends, if you're saying about free wi-fi specific threats the answer will be "yes", but only when you do it securely. Use either OpenVPN or IKEv2 protocol, and avoid PPTP and L2TP with known pre-shared key. OpenVPN is generally more secure but IKEv2 is also acceptable. Android's "OpenVPN Connect" app works perfectly, you firstly generate, download, & install a config file in secure network and then connect to your VPN by it. If yours is iOS, official OpenVPN app didn't auto-connect once disruppted when I last used it. Some VPN providers have their own app, others have instructions to use IKEv2 on iOS. You can make your own home VPN if your router support it, but if not my personal recommendation are AirVPN & Mullvad as both are secure, fast, & reliable. They're top-notch for those seeking privacy, but considering your purpose there'll be more option. I recommend you to make some online search and also use free trial for some services to see if you like it.
