Downloaded all the updates on Win 7. No problems so far.
Also downloaded Microsoft Office updates on the Mac. No problems. :D

Thanks for the information, Page. After reading your feedback, I felt confident to run the Security only update in my W7 32 bits laptop, which I did a couple days ago, all was perfect afterward......and beyond :).

    KB4284835, machine 3 below:
    1. WU, but on restart 'We couldn't complete the updates. Undoing changes. Don't turn off your computer'.
    2. MS Catalog download and install. Install successful, but same issue / message as above on restart ...
    3. Installed successfully with clean boot (so no doubt some third party software interference), but then saw in WU history that earlier installs above listed as first one succcessful, second one failed. o_O.

No issues on machines 1 and 2.

Clean install does make a difference. Our machines that updated automatically to 1803 had DNS issues that affected file/printer sharing. Translation from hostname to IP address was broken. None of the usual 'fixes' solved this problem. After clean install, DNS worked just fine.

By "usual fixes" I would assume that means you tried to flush DNS

Looks like Microsoft needed to fix the updates on Microsoft Office on the Mac again. Yesterday downloaded and installed updates 16.14.0 - 18061000 and today received an update 16.14.1 - 18061302. This is not the first time Microsoft borked an update and had to fix on the Mac side.

Oh, yes --- plus about fifty other recommended shots-in-the-dark that have been suggested for various DNS problems over the past several years. Unfortunately, I didn't resort to clean install sooner.

"Maintaining Window Update service health and performance helps ensure that quality updates are installed seamlessly on your device and help to improve the reliability and security of devices running Windows 10."

If that means less (or no more) broken updates, then that's good.

Here's something to ponder in regards to KB4284848. Why fix something in a feature you disabled by default? A clear indication perhaps that corps. are reinstalling it; security vulnerabilities and all ………………………

I'd rather they did fix it. We are required to use it as we have equipment that would otherwise not function. Replacing a bunch of otherwise functioning network storage for no other reason does not get past the people that would have to pay for it.

Win 10 1803 KB4284848, all updated now but:
#1 Install 'fails', but after restart, shows as 'Successfully installed' in WU history, and System>About. o_O
#2 WU always 'late', else OK. :isay:
#3 Second hard restart required ... :cautious:

All through WU, no 'rollbacks,' and MS Catalog downloads or clean boots required, so for me, a relatively better showing by MS .
