The Freedom of the Press Foundation (FPF) now accepts donations in multiple cryptocurrencies, including bitcoin, bitcoin cash, ether, litecoin, and zcash.

To mark its first major cryptocurrency gift, on Monday, the nonprofit accepted a 1,000-ether donation from Mainframe, a decentralized network for censorship resistance.

The foundation has technically accepted bitcoin since 2013, but the Stripe integration for bitcoin was often broken. In January, after Stripe removed support for bitcoin, the FPF stopped accepting bitcoin as well. With the new announcement today, the FPF is also launching a new page that accepts cryptocurrencies directly from digital wallets.

It appears controversial cryptocurrency issuer Tether (USDT) is yet again trying to prove its legitimacy to the larger blockchain community. The company has hired a law firm co-founded by former FBI director Louis Freeh to look into its financial situation.

It is worth pointing out that this is not the first time Tether has passed an unofficial audit as proof its reserves match the amount of circulating USDT.

Unfortunately for Tether, it remains unlikely this “next best thing” will be enough to shake off persistent suspicions of market manipulation and concerns that Tether could collapse the entire cryptocurrency industry. For that, the company will need to undergo a proper audit.

Mt. Gox says it may start paying back creditors as soon as next year

The defunct bitcoin exchange Mt. Gox says it will start paying back the people it owes money perhaps by next year, according to an announcement today from the exchange’s trustee, Nobuaki Kobayashi (= https://www.mtgox.com/img/pdf/20180622_announcement_en.pdf ). The exchange grew quickly between 2010 and 2014, until an attacker slowly drained the exchange of bitcoins, forcing it to file for bankruptcy.

Creditors seeking to be paid back in bitcoin will receive bitcoin back, which could now be worth more than it was when Mt. Gox declared bankruptcy. At the time the bankruptcy proceedings started, bitcoin was worth $440 per token. Bitcoin is worth more than $6,100 per token at the time of writing.

Kobayashi writes that “at this moment, we plan not to accept specific filing of cryptocurrencies other than Bitcoins.” Those who say Mt. Gox stole other cryptocurrencies from them will have to request the value back in bitcoin.

Zebpay has abruptly begun asking its users to withdraw their Indian Rupee (INR) funds from the exchange.
For some context, India’s central banking authority — Reserve Bank of India (RBI) — issued a directive in April to all Indian banks asking them to withdraw support to cryptocurrency businesses in the country

Zebpay has promised that the cryptocurrency-to-cryptocurrency trading on the platform will continue, but it can’t promise the same for trading against the Indian Rupee.
Zebpay is India’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, with a trading volume of more than $8.4 million over the last 24 hours. It is the only Indian exchange listed on CoinMarketCap.

It is also worth noting that the RBI directive doesn’t just affect Zebpay, but all cryptocurrency businesses in the country alike. However, it seems seems that it is the only exchange so far to be warning users about the potential loss.

The Swarm team has announced the immediate release of Swarm client v0.3. Swarm is a distributed storage platform and content distribution service which can facilitate decentralized hosting of websites leading to censorship-resistant content.

The main aim of Swarm is to provide a decentralized store of Ethereum’s public record.

Other benefits of Swarm include being DDoS-resistant, having zero-downtime and being fault-tolerant.
Swarm uses an incentive system to ensure that the system is self-sustaining. It uses peer-to-peer accounting to ensure that contributions are accurately accounted for. Nodes are able to trade resource for resource, but can receive monetary compensation if they are requiring less from the network than they are serving.

Anyone can run the Swarm client node on a server, desktop, laptop, or mobile device. It is part of the Ethereum stack and the reference implementation is written in golang and can be found under the go-ethereum repository.

Bitcoin Will Rebound in 2019
In a related development, Todd Gordon of Tradinganalysis.com expects BTC to bounce back in 2019.

It [the BTC price drop] was part of the plan. I expected Bitcoin to drop below $5,000, shake out a lot of longs, [and create] a lot of discouragement. I think the technicals will kick in around the $3,000 or $4,000 mark.
Gordon predicted that BTC would be back above $10,000 in February 2019.
