They have NEVER been considered in one of the top 5 spots here or anywhere. Likely not even the top dozen. Remember that many of the senior members here in the "privacy/security" arena continue to stress partition of trust configurations. While making this post any part of my relay circuit that may try and compromise me would be unable to do so, even if they had intention to sell me out. Do a search on partition of trust here and in general and you'll quickly see the value.

There's a thread in /r/Piracy about this, which includes a long list of VPN services that supposedly log, compiled by "security researcher John Mason". He's the founder of https://thebestvpn.com/. It's supposedly based on careful reading of privacy policies. Since Jan-2018, they've promoted ExpressVPN and NordVPN. But back in mid 2017, it was ExpressVPN and IPVanish. And even now, his list doesn't include IPVanish Or ExpressVPN, for that matter. It'd be interesting to compare these lists to https://torrentfreak.com/vpn-services-keep-anonymous-2018/ but hey, not now for me. Out of all those, the only one that surprises me is BolehVPN. It seems that they admit that they'll log in self defense. That seems honest, I guess. But I asked IVPN about it, and they claim that they can defend themselves well enough in real time, with no requirement for logging. So basically, they're arguing that defense through logging just reflects incompetence.
I'm using F-Secure FREEDOM for now...I don't completely trust any VPN service on their no logging claims, for me a VPN keeps ISP banned sites available.
How come some sites know you are outside thee country even though you are using a vpn. Downloading a stream i was geoblocked from i tried security kiss,zoog,windscribe and a couple of proxies but only cyberghost was able to make it seem i was in the proper geo area
Check your WiFi connector. I changed my USB WiFi adapter recently and can no longer use a VPN to geolocate or bypass DNS filters from ISP. Plug in the old one and my Google search page comes up as Netherlands, change over and back on Oz. Don't know how to fix this.
@david banner - Basically, most all VPN exits are listed somewhere. Try searching your exit IPs on https://whatismyipaddress.com/ and click on "Show Me More About My IP". Under "Services", you may see "Network sharing device or proxy server". Also check the "Blacklist" link.
@mirmir i will do as you suggest. what i do not understand is how the BBC where i was streaming from knew i was not in UK with a windscribe/zoog uk ip. But they did not know with a cyberghost uk ip.. So they know that you're not in the UK when they see "Network sharing device or proxy server" Does that mean windscribe do not really have a server in the UK? It makes their claim a bit suspect
No. It just means that the IP is flagged as "Network sharing device or proxy server". I don't know the mechanism behind that. Anyone?
