I am in the market for a new computer. In checking Staples showed an HP Pavillion 570-p025 for 469.99. I decided that would suit my needs, but when I went to buy it today it is out of stock and they are not sure they can even get one. A check revealed they cannot order one. I can get one from Amazon, but it is refurbished. I have ordered refurbished sound equuipment without any regret. It would seem a refurbished item would be fine as it has been checked, Fixed, and guaranteed. I wonder if anyone here has bought a refurbished computer and your opinions? Thanks, Jerry

Yes, I have. It was an IBM business laptop that was 3 years old. Not cheap but a lot less than new. I bought it from a reputable seller of used business systems and I got a 3 month guarantee on it. I used it for 7 years.
I only buy used computers and have not bought a new computer, for 12 years. My current HP ProBook, cost me less than $100.
If you buy an HP computer that is refurbished by a certified Hewlitt-Packard repair center, then it should come with a warranty that is TRULY a warranty. Otherwise, HP refurbishments are a crap shoot where "6 is the point" -- pretty good odds, but sometimes you seven-out. When I buy a used Windows 10 computer via Ebay, I always ask the seller to send me a screenshot of... Control Panel\System and Security\System. The bottom of that shot should show Windows 10 as activated. If buying a pre-10 Windows computer, I ask for whether it has a COA &/or Product Key. I never buy from an Ebay seller rated less than 99.5.
That is good advice. There are plenty of Windows 7 systems sold, which have only a Vista COA. The seller has just installed a pirate copy of Windows 7 (usually Win 7 Ultimate). It sounds better, if the computer has Windows 7 installed and if they do a clean install of Windows, it's much easier to find a download for Windows 7, than it is for Vista. I've bought computers from eBay, which did not have a COA.
Me, too. I do not always follow my own advice & I have lucked out so far. In the absence of a COA or Product Key I always image the system drive ASAP after receiving my newly-purchased used computer.
Does anyone have experience buying late model refurbished laptops from Amazon? I mean specifically business class laptops notated as Microsoft Certified. Is this simply verbal rubbish with no legitimacy? I'm wary of buying used but they do provide some possible great deals. Thanks!
