https://www.reddit.com/r/CopperheadOS/comments/8qdnn3/goodbye/ To sum it up: Both James Donaldson and Daniel Micay (strncat in Reddit) own 50% of CopperheadOS. Donaldson is the CEO, Micay the CTO of the company. Daniel Micay has done the largest part of the development. Daniel has published an email in which Donaldson fires him and locks him out from the access to all company resources. Sad. CopperheadOS was the most secure Android variant available. Everybody using it should look out for alternatives.
What alternatives are there? LineageOS? They have a lot of extra security features, right? Paranoid Android hasn't updated the ROM for my Pixel XL in a year. PAC seems to be dead.
Well, I wouldn't say "a lot of extra security features". However, you get very fast (security) updates, and their Privacy Manager is more powerful than the permission manager from standard Android. Combine that with a firewall like AfWall + (root required) and a good blocker like Adguard Pro or DNS 66 - and I would say you're pretty safe. Google has improved Android security a lot in recent years - the sad fact is that many devices don't get those updates. That's one of the main reasons to use LineageOS (provided that your device is supported, of course). If the Treble project will significantly improve the situation remains to be seen.
