If you want 3.5.2 now, then you will need to uninstall. You wont lose anything at all, as we don't touch any of the settings or license. We had to delay the auto update for a week due to the certificate change we made. This ensures our current users have enough time to get to 3.5.1 before we push it.
trying out Blackfog Privacy on a new MacBook and iMac. I really like how light it is and am extremely impressed with the product.
We have a lot more coming on the Mac version over the next few weeks. We just released 3.0 earlier this week.
yeah I am looking forward to this. I really like their products and have been waiting on the new Mac Version
Version 3.0 is closer to Windows, and catching up fast. Features will be close to parity by the time it gets to 3.5. Right now its limited to the Safari browser for threat protection but is very effective. Some of the more advanced rules will never meet the app store rules (since it requires a kernel extension) but it will be available for download from our web site. Be aware that the app store edition is a LITE edition because of the app store limitations. I would recommend the download from our web site for the full edition capabilities.
https://www.blackfog.com/product/blackfog-privacy-1-year/ choose which product in the store you wish to buy, they are all compatible with the following versions of OS under additional information on left side. Supported Platforms Windows 7 SP1 Windows 8 Windows 8.1 Windows 10 Windows Server 2008 R2 Windows Server 2012 Windows Server 2016 macOS 10.11.5 (El Capitan) macOS 10.12 (Sierra)
The license works on either edition, so the page is the same. You will get a link to both editions from the store and you can choose which one(s) you want to download. Maybe we need to make that clearer.
A separate page for the Mac edition would be a better idea. And perhaps you can also implement some of the features from tools like Little Snitch and xFence, that would make BlackFog more interesting.
Having grown tired of AVs, I am using this only on my Macs and windows computers. I like the approach and feel the whole idea of protection is evolving as time goes by. Is it the best solution? Don't know, but for now I am totally ok with this type of protection.
We certainly agree about the AV comment. If you know who the bad guys are then they are easy to spot. The problem is that the bad guys are using fake fingerprints so they cant be recognized anymore, hence this new generation of tools which uses behavior and machine learning to spot them. We are constantly refining these algorithms to get better at it each day. Thanks for your feedback. We are always looking at ways to do things better.
Hello Dr. Darren Williams, Some feature request: - tray balloon notification when a threat is blocked - info of who/whose try to do profiling - resolve IP addresses - selectable popups Really liked this software so far, i even bought a license. Kindest regards from Finland, -moredhelfinland
thanks for the suggestions moredhelfinland. I assume you are using the Mac edition because some of these features are already present in Windows. The Mac edition is still catching up. We will reach parity in the next couple of months. Fell free to PM me or email if you have other questions.
HI Darren I just installed v3.5.2. When I tried to install Heilig Defense MinerOff BF blocked it. I then went to THREAT and whitelist the exe file and it was ok but I tried to reinstall Heilig Defense MinerOff BF blocks it again. I tried another few times, have trhe exe file whistlisted and it's still the same. I think the whitelisting feature is not working. Can help? Thanks BTW, how to remove those items in the THREAT section?
Greetings/ Salutations, Hey there, I have 5 PC's! Do you have a Family Package? And what would be the cost? Moose
Hi Moose, yes we do. The Family pack is for 5 machines listed on our store and is US$85.00 and can be used with mixed platforms. Plus you can get a discount using the wilders coupon on top of that.
Hi Darren Regarding ads/profiling for I'm seeing them despite having my adblockers. Can I check whether BF is blocking at the same time as my adblockers or are they blocking those missed by my adblockers? Thanks
Good question. I'd like to know this as well. I've flipped between Adguard and BF but I can't definitely see which prog is blocking first.
We changed the expiry of that coupon 'wilder', so its still valid until the end of the year. For others we upgraded them to the Enterprise version instead. Re Ad Blocking, the order depends on the browser you are using, usually your ad blocker will catch it first then BlackFog, but each browser tends to have a different order of precedence (eg. Chrome seems to do things earlier, IE, Edge later). We block a majority of them, but its a cat and mouse game as new ad providers come online each week. Feel free to email or private message if you find a site that we are not blocking ads on. The best way to test it is to disable the extension in the browser so you can see what BF is blocking. Naturally we use it every day and find we pickup most things.
