"Cyber attack brings major cryptocurrency exchange to its knees

Bitfinex, one of the largest cryptocurrency exchanges by trading volumes, was down Tuesday morning after it experienced a cyber attack.

According to its incident page, the exchange shut early Tuesday morning after it experienced problems with its trading engine. For a short period the exchange was back online after the issue was addressed. But the exchange was then hit with a so-called denial-of-service attack..."

My cryptocurrency investments have done very well for me over the past few years, but in recent months, the values haven't moved a lot. Up down, up down.
I have only dabbled in three cryptocurrencies. Bitcoin, Ethereum & Litecoin.

I think there are too many now.

"Bitcoin Tumbles After Major Crypto Exchanges Subpoenaed For Manipulation, Coinrail Hacked

Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies flash-crashed Saturday night, one day after the US Commodity Future Trading Commission (CFTC) sent subpoenas four cryptocurrency exchanges in an ongoing probe into bitcoin manipulation that began in late July - following the launch of bitcoin futures on the [Chicago Mercantile Exchange], CME, according to the Wall Street Journal...

In delay reaction, Bitcoin fell as much as $433 or 5.6% in Saturday night trading, with some noting that the flash crash happened shortly after a 90th ranked crypto exchange, Coinrail, had suffered a "cyber intrusion", and was likely the more relevant catalyst for the crypto price drop...

The CTFC subpoenas were issued after several of the exchanges refused to voluntarily share trading data with the CME, after being asked last December..."

"...It is unlikely that the hacking of an insignificant exchange trading a minor altcoin would cause Bitcoin and all other cryptos to slash billions of dollars from their market caps. But that is pretty much what has just happened over the past few hours..."
