This guy has just released a modified version of TinyWall installer that works on the upcoming Spring Creators Update https://fdossena.com/?p=w10debotnet/index_1803.frag
Just scroll down almost to the end, under the section:
    "RECOMMENDED: USE A FIREWALL!".

3rd party modified installer? Feels a bit fishy....

    Is tinywall dead then?

Well, if tinywall were open source, I could understand... but since it's not, I admit it looks a bit weird...
I checked the modified file on virustotal and other websites, but nothing wrong was found.
I think he just removed the digital signature because it was expired, but I'm not sure if it works on a clean installation with secure boot enabled.

Unfortunately tinywall is dead indeed, the last update was 2 years ago... the developer said he was going to make a new version, but then he didn't

Does this mean that Tinywall is no longer safe to use? I admit the lack of updates for the past few years addressing any vulnerabilities is a cause for concern but if it's only a frontend for Windows built-in one and as long as that is updated, it should be OK?

I like the simplicity of Tinywall. I looked up Binisoft WFC and the 15 minutes how-to guide put me off. Is there another firewall like Tinywall but updated regularly?

Maybe you can try Comodo Firewall with all other stuff turn off and only use Firewall options set to "Safe Mode".

Thanks for the recommends. I have a slow CPU Celeron N2840 2GB RAM and needed something lightweight and resource sparring so Tinywall fitted that purpose for many years. I'm a bit of a dinosaur so I'd rather stick with that if there are no known exploitable vulnerabilities or issues.

Comodo Firewall in Safe Mode will allow any "safe" outgoing connection, while blocking any incoming connection.
And without HIPS it doesn't have any self-defense, so it won't add anything to what Windows Firewall can do (except the notification for connection attempt of unknown apps).
I personally use Windows Firewall with Advanced Security, I block any incoming and outgoing connection and I have made an handful of rules to allow specific apps to connect to internet.
I have also set up a bat file to restore my rules at every boot, so that any rules not created by me will be deleted

For less know user the best settings (without any question from Comodo) is to put it on "Safe Mode" and on the second option select "Do not show popups alerts" select "Block Requests".

If he want to have control what is go out/inside then select "Custom Mode" - it is for more Advanced user

If you download TinyWall from trusted sources I guess it's still safe. And believe me, WFC is very simple to operate, no need to read the "how to" guide for basic usage.

Has anyone tried this? On a VM maybe? The website and the guy behind it look legit. He's on GitHub - if that means anything. I miss my TinyWall!:(

I haven't installed it, but I wrote a mail to the guy and he explained me that he just removed the expired signature and then repacked it.
If you download the file and use 7zip to check its content, you can see that's true

If you get a Package Installer error when trying to install, simply set the system time to 2016-03-11.

This for all if can't install tinywall installer with expired certificate (if no have trust on new prepacked installer) just make this 3 steps and all is done.
create folder in C:\TWTemp here place installer TinyWallInstaller.msi
now open cmd with admin and paste this cd /d C:\TWTemp and enter and next paste this command: msiexec /a TinyWallInstaller.msi /qb TARGETDIR=C:\TinyWall and enter and wait 5-15 seconds for unpacking
now program is extracted no more wrong certificate and keep folder on secure place, now just open folder C:\TinyWall and start TinyWallInstaller.msi and follow step for install normal installer.

Just use the 'Windows Defender' Firewall, its more powerful than most firewalls anyway.

Windows Defender integrates with the system itself:
It can identify tampering with the Registry or app settings.
It works seamlessly with User Account Control requests.
It can scrub malware from the Windows Recovery Environment.

    :)

Afaik the windows firewall is not connected to windows defender.
And any program can just willy-nilly change its settings.
