Just did the 1803 cumulative KB4103721 and MSRT update KB890830.

    No problems. Restart required.

Something odd to note is when the update had downloaded and installed it asked for restart and was showing in red at top of the page...

Some settings are managed by your organisation.

This was still there after the restart with a link under it supposedly explaining why it was there. After a quick press of 'check for updates' it was gone

When I got rid of that thing in 1703 or 1709, to get rid of it for good it had to be done from Control panel. Doing it from Settings, the bar would come back after a reboot. After upgrading to 1803, the bar appeared but this time all I had to do to get rid of it was to disable it in Settings>Personalization. Try that settings in Personalization or look how to disable it in Control panel via Google. I cant remember how I did it so I cant tell you.

That did it - thanks so much. The toggle was found under Settings > Personalisation > Taskbar > Turn system icons on or off > Input Indicator.

Is 1803 being pushed to everyone now? If so I won't be turning my problem machine on for a while.

    Wow! Finally!
I hope it gets implemented properly. For example Visual Studio Code does have some recognition of line endings, but sometimes has some problems depending on BOM and encoding.

Anyway Notepad++ is much more powerful than just MS Notepad with recognition of Linux/Mac OS line endings. It is like comparing apples and oranges.

One down, one to go. This update was small but I noticed extra disk activity after updating and rebooting to apply the update. Leaving the machine idle for a log while and doing the reboots helped things settle down. Doing that is part of my routine after updating W10. In my W10, there is always disk activity for a few minutes after starting the laptop, but this was unusual. I think a bunch of stuff was going on all at the same time, including the update, maintenance and defrag.

It looks like I may have dodged a bullet on my problem machine. Windows automatically checked for updates and it is currently downloading KB4103727 for 1709.
My machine has a Crucial SSD. I wonder if that is why it had trouble? My other two machines have Crucials too but a different model.

Krusty, I don't know, but after reading your issues, thought Woody's article could shed some light on the subject.

On two different HP ProBooks, I've had an issue where the DVD drive would automatically eject randomly. From what I've read online, it seems that disabling AutoPlay, will fix the issue. I've disabled it on one computer and so far, it seems to have worked.

I'm not sure if in my case, it's an issue specific to the April update. In the last two laptops I've used as my main computer, I've replaced the optical drive, with my second SSD.

Well that didn't help. After disabling AutoPlay, the drive still randomly ejects. It's a Windows 10 specific problem, as it wasn't happening in Windows 7.

I checked for a firmware update, but it seems there are none for my drive.

You don't happen to have Core Isolation turned on do you? my issue wasn't exactly the same though when Core Isolation was turned on my Asus laptop "Matshita BD" drive wont load which was giving me a Device Performance Health notification about driver issues.

It's not enabled. Windows Defender says ""standard hardware security not supported."

I've seem some reports that random freezes still happen. I'll wait a little more before turning on hardware acceleration back on.
