I too was experiencing this. After toggling off Edge under Settings > Privacy > Background apps I've not seen the prompt again.

I already had all background apps disabled but I toggled it on, made Edge default browser again, restarted. As expected, Edge started after Windows booted. Toggled the background app off, restarted, same deal. Edge still starts after Windows boots.

Just to clarify, Edge doesn't actually open, it just runs in the background for some stupid reason while ever it is set to default browser. Using Firefox as default and this nonsense stops.

Why not just set Firefox as the default browser?

Edge still starts (runs in the background) after Windows boots [and auto stops later on].

That is great news. For me it ll be 24 hours since I last checked in about 15 hours. We ll see what happens then, I wont check manually again. This is really the only thing that is a question mark for me with 1803.
You can Reset Store, that might fix your problem. Go to Apps & Characteristics>Microsoft Store>Advanced options, scroll to the bottom, you ll see the option.

Thanks Bo. Already tried that and no success. That trick usually works for me if I have another sort of problem with an app, but not when it's because Zemana has silently quarantined it.

In the past 12-18mths Zemana has falsely detected and quarantined Bing News, the MS Mail and Calendar app, and another MS app I forget, and also two non MS apps that were false positives. In EVERY case, adding the file to the exclusions, restoring the file, disabling real time protection (even uninstalling Zemana!!), uninstalling and re-installing the app, using the app reset function you've mentioned as well as other fixes out there using powershell etc have failed to work. The ONLY things I've found that allows a previously detected app to run after Zemana has detected it, is to either do a complete refresh of Windows, or, wait until the store releases a different version of the app. The MS store seems to get updated regularly so I'm hoping I don't have too long to wait.

I used to be a big fan of Zemana but I'm getting mighty sick of the mess it makes of my system. FPs happen, I get that, and Zemana do respond to FPs you submit & whitelist them promptly (they do have good customer service), but that doesn't repair the damage done. I could live with the large number of FPs if the realtime protection didn't silently quarantine and gave you an option to ignore when you KNOW it's a FP, and if restoring and excluding files actually worked. I do not intend to renew my license when it expires. I'm also considering keeping Zemana's realtime protection off permanently and relying on my AV and another AM instead (and obviously common sense).

Do you have a time frame for that? I checked after about 1/2 an hour and it was still running.
Good question! I have for now. ;)

To this I will add 0x000021a that greeted me on a restart yesterday. Subsequent restart was fine.

A bit of forensic activity into cause yielded HP laser printer driver as the culprit. Not surprised, but never occurred previously on any Win 10 feature upgrade.

Appears when the Win 10 1803 upgrade occurred, I had the printer powered down. So upgrade only installed part of the drivers. HP in their borked driver installation process will not fully install the driver until the printer is powered up. I did that the evening before and saw history that two printer drivers were installed. First restart the subsequent day blue screened.

I have seen enough already to state I believe Win 10 1803 will be nothing but trouble in the future.

The only really annoying problem I'm having with 1803 is that Sound is erratic. Two days ago, none. Yesterday it was fine. Today, it's gone again. Troubleshooting does bring it back, but it's not a permanent fix.

    After Windows boots=
If you don't open Edge, runs in the background for hours.
It closes immediately after the first opening of Edge.

That did it for me also. After not manually checking for updates for 24 hours, the machine checked for updates on its own when I cold started it. So, I am done. Version 1803 has been running well, this thing with updates not getting done automatically was the last question or doubt I had about the new system. Now we know something changed in between versions regarding how updates are being handled, this is fine with me. I used to think anyway that the machine checked for updates more often than it really needed. Once every 24 hours is more than enough.

Now, I am going to disable Windows defender, to make sure the machine still checks for updates tomorrow.

I read about your problems with false positives. I think you should uninstall the program that's causing your problems. It has done it more than once, waiting till the license expires is probably not a good idea.

Here is why you may want to skip this month Windows Updates
Patch Tuesday is just around the corner; Microsoft pushes out security updates and other updates for all of its products on the second Tuesday of the month.

I've read some of the comments in this thread, and it makes me wonder if Win 10 is really worth the trouble. Or perhaps people should just stop updating it? What a mess, M$ is making a fool out of themselves, you don't ever read this stuff about the Mac.

Apple has also some serious update issues: https://www.google.nl/search?q=mac .....69i57j0l5.8391j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
Just be careful when doing an update on anything nowadays.
Read first if there are issues and always perform a backup.

Can confirm this worked for me. In fact, I just turned off running all apps in the background as I don't have a need for it. Thanks!

Can someone in W10 1803 tell me the startup type for Service "IKE and AuthIP IPsec Keying Modules". Is it on Manual or Automatic.

In my opinion, if you are going to buy a new computer and you have always liked Windows, then yes, it is worth it. I haven't had any major problem with any of the W10 systems I used. Same with version 1803, I am not experiencing any of the issues that are being reported. As other users, I am seeing Insiders being mentioned in Settings>Privacy but that's really nothing. W10 generates more errors in Event log but most of them are meaningless. In my personal case, I have questions with every W10 system I used but that's all they are, questions that I cant answer because I don't have the knowledge to know the answer.
