I have just released version 1.2.8.5 of MJ Registry Watcher at https://www.jacobsm.com/mjsoft.htm#rgwtchr and it has the following changes :- Changes 1.2.8.4 to 1.2.8.5 1) Updated SSL libraries and strengthened ciphers to TLSv1. 2) Improved algorithms. Not much seems to have changed. (If it ain't broke, why fix it?). I have used SSL 1.0.1.9 libraries to ensure TLS v1 is used, and SSLv2 and SSLv3 are not used. In terms of long-term CPU usage, I have found that, if you are running MJRW in Accept mode, you can save some resource usage by setting the Hook Throttle to 0ms in the Engine Tuning section.
Thanks and great to see you @Graphic Equaliser after all this time. If you recall i'm also one of your supporters from back on, what, Windows 98 maybe? XP for sure. I know this might seem beating a dead horse again, but I have to bring it up. Did you ever toy with "maybe" fashioning a driver to replace the polling Registry Watcher performs with? There's no one else I bet in all this forum who is more enthusiastic and I have longed for ages for a Registry monitor that can do immediate-instant alerts and/or block the whole registry while in session. I always have had to fall back on PC Hunter under Settings where all it takes is a simple checkmark and locks down the entire registry, showing Permissions Not Allowed at-once! when trying to just add a Key or Value anyplace.
Hi Easter! I did have a look at making MJRW a driver app but the prerequisites and complexities involved on a surface that is always upgrading itself, proved too much for this simple hobby project. Windows makes writing drivers hard. MJRW already has a service-based version (so it runs as a service in Accept or Reject mode - no prompts, it's a service!), and that's as far as I will take it. Thanks for your reply and yes I will most certainly check that out. Registry/File monitoring is a big hobby on this end where believe it or not I still use Windows 98 FileChangeAlarm even on Windows 10 and it works like a charm.
