Not very forthright are they? Not to mention and can also cause a big stink. I fail to see the purpose in withholding security updates like that and even resorting to going as far to keep it from users when they do have them to roll out. Bandwidth? Something else? Even sinister?
Obviously done with nefarious intent, probably because the security updates would break the means they were using to spy on their users.
Remember that mobile security companies only want to sell you something https://www.androidcentral.com/mobile-security-companies-really-only-want-sell-you-something
The security patches are pretty much meaningless when every pre installed app is grabbing your data every minute and uploading it to who knows what. Even the weather app transfers multiple megabytes of data in just a few days. I mean seriously, a weather update should at the most be a kB of data and that would be pushing it. Every time I get a new phone it's an all day event fighting with it to disable all the spyware and if it wasn't for noroot firewall that would also mean rooting it because the newer versions of Android phones have more and more apps with the disable button greyed out including that weather app btw, even a preinstalled Facebook app cannot be disabled!! Of course every one of them has internet permissions that also cannot be turned off, hidden in a separate dialogue from the one that says, "no permissions granted". Even the keyboard!! A keyboard with its own internet access. It's almost beyond belief. So, who needs ”security updates". There is no security unless you try to provide it yourself with at the very least, the proper use of a firewall. If you think that was a rant you don't even want to know what I send to those horrible google people via their feedback thing.
This is one of the reasons I went for a Pixel phone. the latest android direct from google which has less preinstalled apps. Also I would find it hard to believe that google why lie about its own security patches. I was tempted to go for Iphone but I find IOS to limited.
I have used this very simple but safe app and they don't push or bully you for updates. It's as good as it gets. I won't even bother it's maker a request for current temps (because it shows none) but it's spot on every single time radar-wise and forecast. All the others have bells whistles and bug you to pull n push. Not this one. Nope. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.appdlab.radarexpress&hl=en
I dunno....I don't trust google but I don't really trust my brand new smartphone vendor either... dang...maybe I just have to cook my own custom OS for my phone too ....
Yes there are other good weather apps but the point I was making is about the way the preinstalled one cannot be disabled unless you root the phone.
LoL I hear ya. Lock em out those snoopers totally. I root all 3 my androids and that opens up the internals big time. But most peeps won't or can't for whatever reasons. No way in gods green earth that I would ever own/use a default Android AS-IS and run it. Mine is quiet as a mouse when it is connected which isn't so often actually. I believe in 100% USER CONTROL. And there's no cutting corners because it can suck in everything and the kitchen sink without proper attention and full control. (wink)
