"As of this moment, it looks as if the manual Win7 Security-only patch KB 4093108 fixes the phantom NIC bug and static IP zapping bug — but the Monthly Rollup, KB 4093118, does not. That puts us in a surreal situation where Microsoft recommends that those installing the (automatically pushed) Monthly Rollup first install the (manual download) Security-only patch". https://www.computerworld.com/artic...ome-early-crashes-and-a-surreal-solution.html ... I did not install the March W7 Rollup and looks like i won't install the April Rollup because of the NIC bug. Will wait and see if the May Rollup fixes the Nic bug.

This is getting ridiculous. They really know how to scr** up update process. For now I will stay with critical updates delivered through WU and install other if I encounter problems.

118 was pulled after 2 days which is kind of strange.

Same here.... I had it installed Tuesday on another image, now 2 days later, it's been pulled, I imagine due to bugs and problems again. This is exactly what happened to the March rollup last month. Man, I wish MS would get it together! I bet we don't see another rollup this month either... Sigh.....

Perhaps it's Microsoft's new update policy?
Get your patches as soon as offered, or you won't get your patches till next month.

Yes, people following Woodie's advice to wait a week or so to update their systems, will never get a chance to update their systems again. :)

I am pretty sure they will send out release #2 pretty soon via WU. It looks as though they missed the exe for the NIC repair. :ouch:. If this was happening to Windows 10,we would be seeing heads on sticks at Redmond.

According to the posts in the AskWoody forum thread How to see Windows 7 April 2018 Win. monthly rollup KB4093118 in Windows Update, KB4093118 may reappear if you hide KB4088881 Preview.

Ok, I stand corrected... it now just suddenly appeared again after a 3-4 hour break. Just checked via WU and now it's there. The April Rollup, KB4093118..... I think I'll make an image first, then install it and see what happens... :)

KB3031432 has a tendency to popup at random. It was released February 2015.

You say you just installed it. Would you do me a favor?

Check for KB3031432 in Programs and Features 'installed updates' - is it showing as installed?

Checked as you asked in "installed updates" and what do you know, the message is "no items match your search" so it isn't even installed even though it shows as installed in "view installed update history"; very strange. Also after that "fantom" installation and log off, the PC went through the "configuration process" and after, as the PC was booting up, I was held up with a blue screen with the message "cleaning up, do not shut of the computer" which lasted over 15+ minutes until I was able to reach the desktop screen. To top all of that of, after going through all of the previous, I received another windows update notification to install, KB4041083, Security Quality Rollup for .Net framework. Has been quite the afternoon.

'Cleaning up' - that is an indication that the advanced cleanup (clean up system files) on archived windows updates was triggered by either you (running disk cleanup) or by Microsoft automating it on your behalf (they can do that). The reboot you did after installing the other update completed the process.

It may sound strange - and it is - KB3031432 appears to get flagged by Windows advanced cleanup as being replaced by another update or no longer needed, and deletes it. After that, windows update will send the update out again as important.:oops::eek:

It gets even more weird ...
If you do a command line query on KB3031432, after 'installed updates' confirms that it is not on your system, this query will confirm that it is on your system o_O Below is the command (has to be run as admin) ...

    wmic qfe | find "3031432"

That is common. Searching in Programs and Features 'Installed updates' using the search option is not reliable.
Better order 'Installed updates' by name, and then look for yourself if you find the KB number that you are looking for.
