That would just be one scammer giving his money to other scammers so they can say,
Save the mice raised an incredible five million dollars last year which allowed us to increase our salaries by 20% and move to plush new offices and outfit them with wonderful new furniture designed by gucci and build a heated indoor swimming pool and a gym.
Oh yeah and we helped 25 mice find a new home.

Senator: Does FaceBook collect data on people who have not signed up to FaceBook, yes or no?
Zuckerberg: Yes but only for security reasons...

Is probably one of the few reasons that Congress even cares what FB does because then what THEY do online is being collated too.
The other being that FB let's democracy work the way it was intended to.
On FB everyone can publish whatever they want, and have their say publicly.
Politicians only like democracy when it is controlled by their media cronies.

What about all those lovely face-reco photos that people have uploaded? All their exif/iptc/xmp/gps data? Contact lists? Oh yes, security reasons. Financial security reasons....

Lol no I was using mice as an analogy for all the "worthy causes" so many charities claim to support while they feather their own nests with the majority of the donations.

Damn, they were extremely careless :(

At least Google, with all of its data gathering, seems to keep the data to itself. Because it runs all the data-using stuff internally, and doesn't play freely with third parties.

These profiles they are creating on everyone will obviously be used as criteria for judging people.
Governments are already talking about using them to decide whether a person should be issued an entry visa.
These profiles will be like a hidden big brother influencing decisions made about people all through their lives, not least on job applications so what happens when profile sabotaging malware is created and I'm sure it will.
It could make a browser connect to thousands of dodgy websites clicking links to things that could change a person's profile drastically like rape porn, sites and articles about explosives and bombs etc.
People could go through life never knowing that their hidden profile describes them as potential pedophile, rapist, terrorist etc.

"WhatsApp founder plans to leave after broad clashes with parent Facebook

SAN FRANCISCO -- The billionaire chief executive of WhatsApp, Jan Koum, is planning to leave the company after clashing with its parent, Facebook, over the popular messaging service’s strategy and Facebook’s attempts to use its personal data and weaken its encryption, according to people familiar with internal discussions...

The independence and protection of its users’ data is a core tenet of WhatsApp that Koum and his co-founder, Brian Acton, promised to preserve when they sold their tiny startup to Facebook. It doubled down on its pledge by adding encryption in 2016. The data clash took on additional significance in the wake of revelations in March that Facebook had allowed third parties to mishandle its users’ personal information..."
