I am trying 5.3.0.0 again with Windows 10. Just a question: if I create a Store app rule the way it is described in the manual here:

User interface/Rules panel/How to allow Store Apps that have a different path after an update?

...does this mean that the rule will stick and still work with Secure Rules/Secure Profile enabled, even after the app(s) auto-update (and probably somehow modify the rule while doing so), or will Secure Rules block the app/rule auto-update in any case?

It'd be also very helpful if we could have the Application Package column in the Rules Panel, even if that value can't be edited by WFC. It'll help in quickly monitoring and verifying the rule is correct.

Please see my response from here.
It should work. However, Secure Rules from version 5.3.0.0 may prevent the installation of a new update. The application package column was on my to do list, but it will not be implemented anymore in WFC.

    Important announcement

BiniSoft.org and WFC were acquired on 21 March and have a new owner. Parts of WFC will be integrated in a different security product in the near future and I will be involved in the development. Currently, WFC development is discontinued until a decision will be made by the new owner.

It is not possible anymore to become a registered user, therefore the donations button was removed from the website. The existing registered users will be still able to log in into their accounts and activate WFC.

Thank you for your support over the years.

The Mafia :) Now seriously, the new owner is preparing a press release and a new interface for the website. I will post here an update when their announcement will be ready.

In addition to the Secure Boot (or without it), you can use the batch file to automatically turned OFF the network adapters when the computer boots. After the computer is booted, the network adapter must be manually turned ON by a similar batch or in Network Setting.

Congratulations alexandrud and good luck on your new job! Really curious about the new owners... hope it's the ones I currently use. :)
Yandex acquired Agnitum and their excellent Outpost software - it vanished instantly. This seems to be a very different case. Let's wait and see.

That would be a good shout. Emsisoft recommend WFC now they rely on WF and it somehow seems a distinct possibility to me.

as a user of WFC, it would be ideal to me; however if it is another company, i will say good bye to it and revert to just basic Windows Firewall.

Should we turn off "Automatic check for updates" function now?

It would be fine as long as new company keeps WFC as it is. But won't have my hopes high. WFC and simplewall are the only standalone firewall/firewall controllers I like(I'm excluding HIPS and others). I would be sad if WFC isn't developed any further.

It won't be beneficial for the company to devote personnel and resources for a standalone version; i guess they bought WFC to boost their sales by offering a suite.

Avast already has a FW, i would bet on vendors that only offer a standalone AV/solution or one with a very weak firewall lol

maybe Malwarebytes, lately they focused on fusing their products; with a firewall feature they will have a full suite :
Real-time scanner & web filter (MBAM) + anti-exploit (MBAE) + WFC = MIS aka Malwarebytes Internet Security LOL

WFC does its update checks at 66.198.240.5, which seems to belong to A2 Hosting. Emsisoft processes: a2guard, a2service.exe etc. Huge stretch, I know. :)

Nearly every AV vendor offer a paid solution which includes a FW. But Microsoft doesn't like when a 3rd party security solution disables Windows Firewall, so it would be great for any AV firm to offer a front end for Windows Firewall.
Avast has pushed a lot on lightness and what's lighter of the integrated Windows Firewall? ;)

When I turn on WFC my audio sharing gets disabled. My networked pc sends my main pc audio via multiplicity (stardock). The minute I turn on wfc it gets disabled. If i turn wfc off audio sharing is fine again. I checked the rules panel, the connection panel but I'm none the wiser.

Any of you wfc guru can possibly help ?

    Thanks.
