    Nothing will prevent you to use any static filter, when you use medium mode. You may sometimes allow FB or Twitter domain on some sites to see movie, but static filter will prevent too much info being sent if they're on block list.

    Thanks for the reply. I was afraid that it may break Medium mode or something :argh:

    Now im using Medium mode with these filters:

    All ublock filters
    Easylist
    Easyprivacy
    Malware Domain List
    Malware domains
    Fanboy's Social Blocking List
    Peter Lowe's Ad and tracking server list

    It's crucial to understand the difference between Dynamic Filtering (medium mode is just one of its variants) and Static Filtering (which is applying the rules from the chosen filterlists).

    The important thing to remember is: Dynamic Filtering takes precedence over Static Filtering. That's why a filterlist cannot "break" Dynamic Filtering. A block rule (red) in Dynamic Filtering always blocks the respective hostname or request type regardless of the static rules in the filterlists. Similarly, an allow rule (green) in Dynamic Filtering always allows the respective hostname or request type regardless of any rules in the filterlists.

    However, an allow rule should only be used in rare circumstances in order to un-break a site (which is broken by specific rules in the filterlist). Normally, if a site does not work as expected with a block rule, a noop rule (grey) should be used instead as this makes sure that the static rules from the filterlists are still applied.

    Unable to update filter lists in uBO 1.15.2. Same when updating to uBO 1.15.8
    Using Pale Moon browser. Click on 'Update now' button and circle
    icons just continue to spin in the filter lists without any being updated.

    There is a feature in GitHub which allows to prevent non-contributors from interacting with the repo for 24h. I activated that feature yesterday, unfortunately I have to do this sometimes when the repo is suffering from noise -- people venting unproductively, for example about what I do, should do, or don't do. I want the repo to be kept strictly for development and nothing else. For everything else, there are other better suited forums.

    What version of Pale Moon is this? I tested this morning with Pale Moon 27.x, and updating filter lists worked. I did read someone reporting this was not working for Pale Moon 26.x, so I raised the minimum version to Pale Moon 27 today.

    Tho I can use search window for My filter or even other filters, can't use for My rules? But TBH I don't understand what advantage they have against Ctrl + F. I personally prefer older interface with Ctrl + F.

    Brian Krebs has an interesting new blog post:

    Omitting the “o” in .com Could Be Costly

    And:
    Fortunately, this is quite easy to do in uB0. Just add the following rule to My Filters:

    Code:
    ||*.cm^$document
    Ready! I also tried to achieve something similar (* *.cm doc block and * .cm doc block) in uMatrix but without luck. Anyone? (EDIT: This is the probable explanation. I didn't bother to overcome this problem as it is obviously easier in uB0.)

    Thanks summerheat.

    I block javascript by default in Chrome, then just whitelist the domains or IP addresses I want.

    I see. However, I prefer to block JS with uMatrix as this is easier to manage, IMHO, than adding more and more exceptions in the browser. And I think that effectively blacklisting malicious sites via the filter above is better than just blocking JS.

    Besides: I haven't used Chrome for a while - but AFAIR JS is also allowed for all affected 3rd-party sites if you allow JS for a specific site in the browser settings. Is this still true? If so that would be another reason why I prefer not to use it that way.

    I also use uMatrix and uBlock togehter, using the latter as simply an ad blocker and the former set up in its default configuration, then allow only selected content either per site or globally. The Chrome settings are in place just as a base layer to default-deny, then whitelist a limited selection of top-level country domains. And yes you are correct that all 3rd-party content is allowed when allowing JS for specific sites in the browser.

    This has to be corrected :( Exactly this issue was also discussed on ghacks-user.js and @gorhill commented there. The correct rules to use are:
    Code:
    ||cm^
    for uB0 and
    Code:
    * cm * block
    cm 1st-party * block
    for uMatrix (here is gorhill's explanation why).

    You can find the correct rules also in the ghacks-user.js wiki.

    Thanks :)
    I have blocked it now in both uBO and uMatrix.
    For testing i have visited a .cm-domain and uBO has blocked it. After allowing it temporarily, uMatrix is now blocking it :geek:

    Shouldn't uBO version shown in [About] tab in Dashboard match the version installed
    in the Add-on Manager?

    About tab showing uBlock Origin v.1.15.8
    Add-ons Manager showing 1.15.12
