The "Lifetime" license on one of my machines just stopped working and MB 3.4.4 reverted to the free version. Is this how they intend to force their customers to create an account?

Edit: I try to set up an account and it says my email has already been used. Yes, for the forum. Then it tells me to check my email for instructions to set up an account. There is no bloody email!!!!!!!!!

    Malware Bites!

Finally managed to uninstall it. I wasn't able to turn off self protection - or all the other protections which were all turned on, none of which I had selected except the anti-exploit module (this has been a frequent issue). The assistant would start, but nothing would happen.

After manually stopping the service, the uninstall worked.

Not sure I want to install the new version actually.

I found the account business confusing too. Here is the address for the account associated with MBAM that uses email for the user credential:

    https://my.malwarebytes.com/en/login#

This address is for the forum that uses the forum ID for the user credential (for instance Victek :) )

    https://forums.malwarebytes.com/

    Hope this helps.

Seems odd that there is no mention of the fact that if you have a paid for version it will also leave a copy of the licence details on your desktop after uninstall.
It will also offer to re-download Malwarebytes again for you and will auto licence it for you after install..

(At least this is what happened when I did it on a friend's machine )

    Manually updated using internal updater.

Somehow updates always change my protection settings. I have everything off, so on demand only. This time web protection was set on.

It's a problem with PCMag's website. If you read the review, it's about version 3.
