BlackFog has just updated the Advertising and Profiling rules which now cover more than 95% of Ads. Selecting Help > Update will apply the new rules to your local edition.
I just installed Avast free AV on one machine as a trial and boy oh boy hasn't BFP been busy blocking Profiling since.
@Krusty Been using Avast Internet Security and i have not noticed this myself. https://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/blackfog-privacy.400343/page-8#post-2739167 I did send Darren some logs and was asked what other security software i was using. I was late sending that info back(few days ago).
Hmm, that is interesting indeed. So far I haven't had any 'Threats' blocked, just 'Profiling', and many more already.
Yes we are still looking into this. The team has been busy working through the dependency tree, should have some more data next week.
I tried installing the trial version on my MS SP3 tablet running WIn 10 Pro but cannot. I disabled Emsisoft AntiMalware protection and have HMPA and AdGuard for desktop running During installation there's an error code and later said Visual C++ distributable software not properly installed...something like that.. I tried twice downloading the software but it still cannot install
Yes we have seen that before NiteRanger, we have a knowledge base article on it. This is a known MS issue with that dependency. It's actually nothing to do with BlackFog but rather the MS runtime used. The article can be found at installation-failing-pre-requisite-installation.
So I'm supposed to reinstall the correct version of the Visual C++ Redistributable? So far I have no issue in installing any software. Since BlackFog already identified the problem MS runtime used why not it informs and install the correct runtime as well after which the program continues its installation? After all if the MS runtime is problemmatic then BlackFog cannot be installed.
It's actually a problem with the MS dependency, so the remedy is not to install a different one but fix the underlying problem. The problem is because of a damaged registry from other installs, which are unrelated. The KBA solution has worked for others in the past.
Hi Darren Just installed BFP after settling the runtime redistributable issue. It is running fine for now. Likely to buy after the installation of MS Redstone 4 next month if its performance is great. Ok, since BFP is about protecting data exfiltration on the outbound is there any indication or log to show the IP address and the name of company when there's an outbound connection...something similar to that of a firewall but with greater details instead of just an IP address? Example If Norton AV is connecting to Symantec and its IP address then it's fine but if connecting to an Unknown address/place then BFP should raise an alert and block it Thanks
Great question NiteRanger, we actually have the capability of doing that but have not rolled it out yet, so we can even give you the ISP on record if needed. Right now the HOST dialog will show you the domain name and IP address, Country and state. I will add this to the list of requests for next iteration. We have a small update coming next week with a few tweaks and then we will be moving onto 3.5 features.
Can someone running BlackFog check if they have this Registry Key after a Privacy Clean? https://support.microsoft.com/en-us...ndows-security-updates-and-antivirus-software Something is deleting it on my machine and it looks like Windows Defender is recreating it. I had it on this machine a little over an hour ago, BFP ran a Privacy Clean and it is gone now. Thanks.
Thanks Paul. Then what is removing it on my machines?? It was just on this machine before I started a Macrium Reflect backup but it is gone again now.
Yes, and I've been blaming that too because I've been installing it the last few days but that key kept disappearing. It is disappearing just using WD so maybe it is CCleaner. If not, I'm out of ideas.
