Avast: New stable version 18.2.2328 released. https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=216700.msg1451035#msg1451035
I just installed the latest Avast Free and logged in with my account but the license says it's valid for a month only? I even restarted but it's the same. So how is this free then if it's only a month?
I just installed Avast Free two days ago to see if it ran lighter than WD (it does, really, especially during downloads and installations) and it said 30-days license, even when I logged in. I rebooted and it showed one year. But I also went to my account and made sure that my device was listed properly.
Perhaps it installed a trial and will revert to the free version after 30 days? Check the features: https://www.avast.com/en-us/compare-antivirus
I think I read somewhere the license is tied to your hardware and depending on how many days you have left on a previous activation it will either extend your subscription for a year or continue to count down and will need to be activated again. Don't ask me for a link on that though. I was surprised how many days I got when last I installed Avast. #239
Don't know if the Free License still works this this way. Have you tried Settings >> Subscription >> Register ? As i remember you had to register after the 30 Day's (or beforehand) and then you got the full year after registering, which had to be done every year. Regards.
I installed Avast free and activated it on Sunday. It was only installed for about half an hour before I restored a backup. I just installed it again on this machine which technically hasn't had Avast before because I restored from a backup but Avast shows I have 359 days left, so I'm fairly sure the subscription is tied to hardware.
As Krusty has mentioned it could be tied your System (Hardware). I have found a link below on how to Activate the license manually. https://support.avast.com/en-au/article/Activate-Free-Antivirus Hopefully this helps.
I'm sure most members here know Avast isn't that privacy friendly, but just in case you didn't know - https://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/blackfog-privacy.400343/page-10#post-2741675
I'm using F-Secure Freedome VPN and it's tracking protection went crazy after using avast. I have never seen it block that much tracking attempts and after uninstalling avast everything is back to normal.
I've come to the conclusion that if I need another program (thanks BlackFog) to protect me from my AV then I'm using the wrong AV.
Isn't it time to start a new thread for the 2018 version? (Also, I personally would like to see separate threads for the stable and beta versions...)
