Well, I guess WD wasn't working properly on my machine. I wonder if that is related to Network Protection not working any more? Reinstalled Norton for now.
Off topic but that did not go well. I've restored back to Win10.

I doubt it is the reason because SmartScreen works independently of WD.

Well try Windows Defender again, maybe it was a isolated bug.

Yeah, I probably will revisit this issue but not today.

Which ones weren't working for you? I just tested them myself. They were all blocked

    @all,

Maybe there was a problem with my testing methodology. I just uninstalled Norton and tested again and all tests were indeed passed. I guess I was the problem and not Windows Defender.

    D'oh!

How do you uninstall Norton Security when switching between it and Windows Defender? Do you uninstall it the standard way (e.g., Windows Settings), or do you use the Norton Remove and Reinstall Tool (advanced options)?

Uninstall from Program and Features, restart then run NRnR and restart again. Probably not needed but that's the way I do it.

Ahh so you are back on Norton again Krusty? How is it running for you? I am back to another product myself. I just can't trust WD.

    You're welcome.
On two machines but I am getting very sick of the incessant pop ups from Norton trying to get me to use their extensions even though I have repeatedly clicked the "Don't Ask Me Again" link.

WD isn't bad but on my slowest machine it does seem to slow it more than Norton. The machine running WD has other programs installed to keep it company so I don't feel at all unprotected. ;)

That's a good thing! Yeah WD does slow things down and I would never use it alone, that is for sure. I know you rock other things so you are indeed good to go. No issues on the latest builds of Norton I assume?

Nup, no issue with the latest builds of Norton but that is off topic for this thread.

    Cheers.

Thanks Dave, Krusty, or Mate will do. :D

Feel free to ask any Norton related questions in the Norton thread and I'll do my best to answer them there.

Another reason to not rely solely on WD sadly. In my mind, it is close enough Krusty lol!

It would have affected any program that uses AMSI, not just WD.

I will still blame WD for personal reasons. ;)

Behavior monitoring combined with machine learning spoils a massive Dofoil coin mining campaign.

Poisoned peer-to-peer app kicked off Dofoil coin miner outbreak.
Much more on how Windows Defender Antivirus and Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection dealt with this outbreak in blog post here : https://cloudblogs.microsoft.com/mi...er-app-kicked-off-dofoil-coin-miner-outbreak/

(This blog post is Microsoft's continued investigation on the Dofoil outbreak and a continuation of the Microsoft blog post mentioned here.)

That's great, but still no explanation why Network Protection stopped working.

AV-Comparatives has published chart and report with their results for February 2018 Real-World Protection Test :

Testing are on Windows 10 1709 Fall Creators Update 64bit.

    Chart : http://chart.av-comparatives.org/chart1.php?chart=chart2&year=2018&month=2&sort=1&zoom=4

    Full report : https://www.av-comparatives.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/avc_factsheet2018_02.pdf

Microsoft doing very well with all malicious samples blocked.
Zero samples undetected and zero samples user-dependent.

Cool. Now they just have to tune the program so it is not so resource intensive.
